     Gertrude J. Ableman was born on 21 November 1923 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.1 She was the daughter of Lawrence Fred Ableman and Inga Dorthea Hanson. Gertrude J. Ableman graduated in 1941 at Faribault High School, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.1 She married Ernest Eugene Langer on 24 May 1952 at Associated Church, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota; M8-324.1 Gertrude J. Ableman died on 9 September 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Olmsted Co., Minnesota, at age 96.1 She was buried on 11 September 2020 at Owatonna Memorial Gardens, Owatonna, Steele Co., Minnesota.1

Gertrude A. Langer, 96 of Owatonna, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Friends may greet the family from 2:00 pm until the time of service on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Brick Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place at Owatonna Memorial Gardens.
Gertrude was born November 21, 1923 in Faribault the daughter of Lawrence and Inga (Hanson) Ableman. She attended High School at in Faribault and was a member of the graduating class of 1941. After high school Gert worked at Farmers Seed and Nursery for many years. Gertrude was united in marriage to Ernest Langer in 1952 at Associated Church in Faribault. She was a homemaker while raising her son Charles until 1968 and went back to work for Sears Roebuck and Company in Owatonna and continued there for the next 25 years. She retired in 1985. Gert’s life interests include reading, playing cards with family and sewing.
Gertrude is survived by her son Charles of Owatonna. Sister-in-law Geri Ableman of Faribault, brother-in-law Joseph Langer of Calfornia and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest, brothers Norman and Leonard. Memorials may directed to the American Cancer Society.1

     Lawrence Fred Ableman was born on 22 February 1895 at Cannon City, Rice Co., Minnesota.1,2 He was the son of William Frederick Ableman and Caroline Bredemeyer. Lawrence Fred Ableman also went by the name of Tiny. He and Katherine Rose Sklenar were associated between 1915 and 1920 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. Lawrence Fred Ableman began military service on 21 May 1917, Private in US Army, Casual
Det. 1298 Demo. Grp. He ended military service on 24 August 1919. He married Inga Dorthea Hanson on 2 May 1923 at Rice Co., Minnesota. Between 1925 and 1958 Lawrence Fred Ableman was a Policeman, at Faribault Police Department, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. He was described as 6' 6" in height, 236 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes and ruddy complexion in April 1942 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. He died on 30 July 1971 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 76.1,2 The cause of death was Carcinoma of the Stomach.1 He was buried on 2 August 1971 at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.2,1


Lawrence Fred Ableman
Funeral services for Lawrence F. (Tiny) Ableman were held at the St. Luke's United Church Of Christ in Faribault on Aug. 2, with the Rev. Valerius Schultz, pastor of St. John's Church of Wheeling, officiating. Ervin Boelke sang the hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Nearer My God To thee" accompanied by Armin Bosshart, the organist. Honorary bearers were members of the Faribault Police Department and included: Chief Edward O'Brien, Lt. Bernard Pauker, Lt. William Juhnke, Sgt. Leonard Smith, Sgt. Paul Sibernagle and Patrolman Jerome Dwyer. Active bearers were Remold Kiekenapp of Albert Lea, Martin Hachfeld, Willard Tatge, Robert Kiekenapp, Elmer Hachfeld and Walter Koopman all of Faribault.

An honor guard was provided at the service by members of Faribault Barracks No. 949 Veterans of World War I; Robert Endres, commander; Everette Brendemeuhl and John Roell Sr., color bearers; Gary Ovalson, Leo Bruely, Martin Timmers, John Fischer, Frank Jindra, Otto Frederickson, Weir McQuoid, Mel Johnson and Edward Peterson, Charles Mechura, Harvey Knauss, James Murphy, Marvin Morga, Edward Braun, Carl Frydelund, Walter Dusbabek and John Markuson; and Floyd Hammond, escort.

Interment was made in the family lot in the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Faribault. Veterans military rites were provided at the cemetery by members of the veterans service organizations of Faribault. Memorial services were held at the Parker Funeral Home on Sunday evening by members of Faribault Barracks No. 949 Masonic rites were also conducted at the funeral home Sunday evening by members of Faribault Lodge No. 9 AF and AM with Past Master Donald Purrington in charge. The following members of the Faribault Police Dept. provided an honor guard at the funeral home Sunday afternoon and evening: Chief O'Brien, Lt. Juhnke, Sgt. Smith and Patrolman Dwyer. Relatives and friends attending the services from away were from: Owatonna, St. Louis Park, "Rochester, Austin, Milwaukee, Wis., Waseca, Wilton, Wis., Minneapolis, Albert Lea, Northfield, Zumbrota, Kenyon, Nerstrand, Kilkenny, Morristown and Redlands, Calif.

Lawrence Fred Ableman, the son of William and Caroline Brademeyer Ableman, was born at his parents farm home in Wheeling Township in Rice county on Feb. 22, 1895. Shortly following that, his father passed away and his mother was later married to Herman Kuhlman. He attended the schools in Wheeling township and was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Church there. During World War I, he entered military service, and served overseas in France in the various campaigns. Following the Armistice, he continued to serve overseas with the occupation forces in Germany. Following his discharge from military duties, he returned to Faribault. For a short time he was employed at the Minnesota Masonic Home at Bloomington. Following that, he was employed at the Faribault State Hospital. On May 2, 1923 he was united in marriage to Miss Inga Hanson at Faribault. They made their home in Faribault where they have since resided. Mr. Ableman was also employed at the Theopold Reid Company in Faribault. In 1925 he joined the Faribault Police Department, serving with distinction as a police officer for 33 years, retiring from that work in 1958. Since then Mr. Ableman has continued to make his home in Faribault. Mr. Ableman passed away at the Rice County District One Hospital in Faribault on July 30, following an extended illness.

He is survived by his widow, Inga; by two sons, Leonard and Norman both of Faribault; by a daughter, Mrs. Ernest Langer (Gertrude) of Owatonna; by seven grandchildren; by three sisters Mrs. Albert Frydenlund (Clara) of Faribault, Mrs. Arnold Zoesch (Lenora) of St. Louis Park and Mrs. Karl Neuman (Gertrude) of Faribault; by a brother, Roy Kuhlman of Rochester; by nieces, nephews and by other relatives. He was preceded in death by an infant grandson Lawrence John Ableman, and by his parents.

Mr. Ableman was a long-time member of the St. Luke's Church and had served as president of the St. Luke's Brotherhood. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 43 of Faribault and a member of the Last Man's Club of World War I. He was also a member of Faribault Barracks No. 949 Veteran's of World War I, the Golden Age Club of Faribault and he had served as the president in charge of the annual reunion of the 136th Infantry Div. He was a life member of the Southern Minnesota Police and Peace Officer's Association and he was a member of the following Masonic bodies, Faribault Lodge No. 9 AF and AM of which organization he had served as chaplain for a number of years; Tyrian Chapter No. 5 RAM, Northfield Council No. 12 Royal and Select Masters, Faribault Commandary No. 8 KT, the Osman Shrine Temple of St Paul and the Cannon Valley Shrine Club, of which he had recently served as the president.3
