Living in Mexico in May 1914, according to mother's obituary. Charles McCarthy appeared on the census of 1865 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota; listed as 11 years old. He appeared on the census of 1870 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota; page 390, 16 years old. He appeared on the census of 1895 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.

     Charles McCarthy was born on 16 February 1900 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.¹ He was the son of Joseph McCarthy and Anna Madden. Charles McCarthy died on 9 August 1900 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.²
     The cause of death was broncho pneumonia. Birth Record has a male child born to Joseph & Annie on 16Feb1900. Birth Record at time stated Joseph was 35 and Annie was 28 years. Death record says Charles died at age of 0yrs, 6mo, 7days.

     Claire Marie McCarthy was born on 15 March 1909 at Erin Twsp., Rice Co., Minnesota.⁴ She was the daughter of Florence James McCarthy and Florida Louise LaPierre. Claire Marie McCarthy married Cleveland Kassinger, son of Alvis Kassinger and Sarah Hedge, on 30 April 1937 at Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.⁵ Claire Marie McCarthy died on 19 July 2003 at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 94.⁶
     Claire Marie McCarthy appeared on the census of 1920 at Erin Twsp., Rice Co., Minnesota; listed as 7 years old. Her married name was Kassinger. She lived in July 1995 at 117 E. Paquin St., Apt 208, Waterville, Rice Co., Minnesota. She lived at 715 N. Central Ave., Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota; Claire had continued living at this address after Cleve had died, and then around 1997, she moved to Waterville, MN. Birth Record lists name as Clara Marie, born 05Sep1909 and mother as Florida Stone.
Letter from Claire Kassinger dated 9/1994 states: "My mother was French and some of her siblings used the English name 'Stone' instead of the French translation 'La Pierre'. My mother always used the name as 'La Pierre'. I had no middle name, but took the name "Patricia" when I was confirmed. My father disliked the name of 'Florence' and often wrote his name as F. James McCarthy."

Claire McCarthy Kassinger 1912-2003.
Faribault - Claire Kassinger, 91 died suddenly at St. Lucas Care Center on July 19, 2003, while recovering from a fall. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Claire was born in the Shieldsville area on March 15, 1912, the daughter of Florence James McCarthy and Florida LaPierre. The family moved to Faribault upon the death of her father in 1922.

Claire married Cleveland Kassinger, her lifelong companion; and they lived their professional lives in Chicago. Claire was employed as the paymaster of a railroad headquartered in Chicago. Upon retirement Claire and Cleveland returned to Faribault living at Cedar Lake and Boulder City, Nev.

Following the death of her husband in 1995, Claire lived in Faribault, Waterville, and Northfield, most recently at Keystone and Alterra.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleve Kassinger; brothers, Albert and Henry McCarthy; and sisters, Esther Barry of Hesperia, Mich., and Emily Green of Las Vegas, Nev. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, including area residents, Joan LaPierre, and Steve and Rosalie McCarthy. She was much loved by her family who enjoyed her funny stories, and generous love and care.

     Daniel McCarthy was born circa 1869 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.² He was the son of John McCarthy and Saraphine Sheehy. Daniel McCarthy was buried on 8 January 1940 at Hastings Hospital Cemetery, Hastings, Dakota Co., Minnesota. He died on 8 January 1940 at Hastings, Dakota Co., Minnesota.³
     Daniel McCarthy was a Cigar maker and painter. He appeared on the census of 1870 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota; page 390, 1 year old. Daniel's burial site is Row 5, Grave 14. Alice Morgan has birth as 1870 and death in 1929. Daniel McCarthy was a no religious persuasion.

There were multiple hearings in Rice County, Minnesota regarding Daniel being committed for insanity. The first time Daniel was committed was on 27 Oct 1906, by his brother Joseph. The later records indicate he had been in the Rochester State Hospital. His reason for insanity appears to be the habitual use of narcotics, intoxicating liquor, and self-abuse. Both Probate records indicate that two of his cousins on his father's side were insane. Daniel died of carcinoma of the head of the pancreas, obstructive jaundice, and metastoes to liver.

     Deborah Frances McCarthy is the daughter of Dennis James McCarthy and Mary Rose Connena. Deborah Frances McCarthy married William August in June 1976.¹ Deborah Frances McCarthy and William August were divorced in 1986.

     Dennis James McCarthy is the son of Albert Dennis McCarthy and Dollie Helen Schmaedick. Dennis James McCarthy married Mary Rose Connena on 16 June 1956.³

     Donna Ann McCarthy is the daughter of William Charles McCarthy and Katherine Rose Sklenar. Donna Ann McCarthy married William Oscar Harn, son of Oscar Cecil Harn and Delta Ann Perkins, on 8 November 1950 at Mason City, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa.

     Edward McCarthy was born circa 1838.¹ He was the son of Jeremiah McCarthy and Nellie Sullivan.

     Edward James McCarthy is the son of William Charles McCarthy and Katherine Rose Sklenar. Edward James McCarthy married Joan Louise Kukowski, daughter of Joseph Hilary Kukowski and Frances Mary Dembiczak, on 14 November 1964 at Cudahy, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin.²

     Elaine Mary Rene McCarthy is the daughter of Henry Gilbert McCarthy and Irene Genevieve Ronhovde. Elaine Mary Rene McCarthy married Richard Foley Quinn.

     Ellen McCarthy was born on 20 February 1903 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.¹ She was the daughter of Jeremiah McCarthy and Mary C. McGinnis. Ellen McCarthy was baptized on 30 April 1903 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.² She died on 1 May 1912 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 9.¹ She was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.
     The cause of death was Tuberculosis. She appeared on the census of 1910 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota; listed as 7 years old.

     Emily Cleo (Sarephine) McCarthy was born on 5 June 1900 at Wheatland, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁴ She was the daughter of Florence James McCarthy and Florida Louise LaPierre. Emily Cleo (Sarephine) McCarthy married Erven John Greene, son of Martin Greene and Olivia Peterson, on 29 June 1922 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁵ Emily Cleo (Sarephine) McCarthy died on 16 February 1960 at Sparks, Washoe Co., Nevada, at age 59.⁶ She was buried on 17 February 1960 at Las Vegas Cemetery, Clark Co., Nevada.⁶
     Emily Cleo (Sarephine) McCarthy was a Housewife. Her married name was Greene. The cause of death was Brain Atrophy, Alzheimer's Disease for 2 years. Death Certificate lists Emily's birth as 05 Jul 1900. CENSUS: 1920 MN, Rice Co., Erin Twsp., listed as 18 years old.

Emily died at the Nevada State Hospital, after a stay of 4 1/2 months. She had Chronic brain syndrome associated with disturbance of metabolism, growth or nutrition. This contributed to death but was not related to the immediate cause of death: Brain atrophy and Alzheimer's Disease. Emily's usual residence was at 1324 Pacific Ave., Las Vegas, Nevada. She had moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1946.

     Esther Charlotte McCarthy was born on 13 March 1902 at Erin, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁴ She was the daughter of Florence James McCarthy and Florida Louise LaPierre. Esther Charlotte McCarthy married Basil Francis Barry, son of James Goodman and Elizabeth Reeves, abt 1920-21 at Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota.⁵ Esther Charlotte McCarthy died on 5 December 1996 at age 94.⁶
     Her married name was Barry. She graduated circa 1920 at Bethlehem Academy, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. She appeared on the census of 1920 at Erin Twsp., Rice Co., Minnesota; listed as 17 years old. Esther was living in Chicago-1928, according to sister's obituary. She lived at Hesperia, Oceana Co., Michigan. Letter from Claire Kassinger dated 9/1994 stated about Esther: "She had a stroke about six years ago and is confined to her bed and wheelchair. She lives with her son in Michigan. Esther graduated from Bethlehem Academy (in Faribault, MN) in 1919 or 1920."

     Female McCarthy is the daughter of Kenneth Iver McCarthy and Rita Friesen.¹ Female McCarthy married male Ashba.¹

     Florence James McCarthy was born on 30 June 1873 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁴ He was the son of John McCarthy and Saraphine Sheehy. Florence James McCarthy married Florida Louise LaPierre, daughter of Gilbert LaPierre and Eulalie Besson, on 11 July 1899 at Shieldsville, Rice Co., Minnesota; Marriage Record listed Lorence James McCarthy and Florida Stone.⁵ Florence James McCarthy died on 16 December 1920 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 47.⁶ He was buried on 18 December 1920 at St. Patrick's Cem, Shieldsville, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁶

Letter from Claire Kassinger 9/1994, stated that her father, Florence James was sick for a number of years before his death. He had a very crippling form of arthritis. She remembered him only walking on crutches or being confined to bed. He taught school in rural areas around Rice County for 20-years. The last year he taught in New Prague and was on crutches.

Following obituary was in the Faribault Daily News:
McCARTHY - James Florence McCarthy died at his home Thursday morning at 8 o'clock, Dec. 16, after being confined to his bed five years with sciatic rheumatism and other complications. He was born in Faribault June 22, 1874, and received his education in the parochial and public schools, and is a graduate of Faribault high school and Mankato normal school. For 21 years he was successful as a teacher in many of the rural schools of Rice county and was well liked by all who knew him.
In 1899 he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony at St. Patrick's church in Shieldsville to Florida LaPierre of Faribault who, with six children, survives. The children are: Miss Emily, of Faribault; Mrs. Esther Barry, of Chicago; Albert, Henry, Cressa and Leah, at home. He also leaves five brothers and one sister; Charles of Mexico City, N.M; John, of Minneapolis; Daniel, of Hastings; Jerry and Joseph, of this city, and Mrs. J.M. Tracey of Waldon, Mont. He was a patient sufferer for many years, always bearing his suffering with a smile. His funeral was held Saturday morning at 10:30 at St. Patrick's church, Rec. Father Malloy officiating. His body was laid to rest at St. Patrick's cemetery.

     Francis (Frank) Edward McCarthy was born on 1 June 1905 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. He was the son of Jeremiah McCarthy and Mary C. McGinnis. Francis (Frank) Edward McCarthy married Olga Louise Borchert, daughter of Paul Borchert and Louise Velzke, on 12 February 1929. Francis (Frank) Edward McCarthy died on 22 August 1975 at St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota, at age 70. He was buried on 25 August 1975 at Union Cemetery, St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota.

     Gerald Harlyn (Jerry) McCarthy was born on 23 February 1932 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. He was the son of Francis (Frank) Edward McCarthy and Olga Louise Borchert. Gerald Harlyn (Jerry) McCarthy married Barbara Belle Donovan, daughter of Edward Joseph Donovan and Isabel Mary Donais, on 31 October 1951. Gerald Harlyn (Jerry) McCarthy died on 22 March 1999 at age 67. He was buried on 24 March 1999.

     Henry Gilbert McCarthy was born on 24 December 1905 at Sandstone, Pine Co., Minnesota.³ He was the son of Florence James McCarthy and Florida Louise LaPierre. Henry Gilbert McCarthy married Irene Genevieve Ronhovde on 8 September 1926 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁴ Henry Gilbert McCarthy died on 5 December 1941 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 35.⁵ He was buried on 9 December 1941 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.³

He lived on 4 December 1941 at 536 3rd St., NW, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. The cause of death was Meningitis. Marriage Certificate lists Irene's maiden name as Ron Houde. Funeral services for Henry McCarthy, 34 years old, who passed away Friday December 5, were held Tuesday, December 9, at 9 o'clock from the Immaculate Conception church with the Rev. John P. Foley, pastor, officiating. Internment was in St. Lawrence cemetery. Pallbearers were Victor Duchene, John Driesen, Thomas O'Neil, Pat Zabel, Joseph Gillighan and Allen Cook. Mr. McCarthy was born December 24, 1904, in Sandstone, Minn. He lived in Shieldsville until 1921. On September 8, 1926, he married Irene Ronhovde in Faribault where they have made their residence since. Mr. McCarthy attended Faribault high school for one year and completed the four year course of the American Correspondence school in Chicago. He also had completed a course from the National Radio Institute and was studying the New Encyclopedia of Machine Shop Practice and Procedure to qualify for defense work. He was employed as a radio repairman and salesman.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, Kenneth and Stephen, one daughter, Elaine, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Quinn, one brother, Albert, of Chicago, and three sisters, Mrs. Alvin Green of Waseca, Mrs. Basil Berry and Mrs. Cleveland Kesenger of Chicago. Out of town friends and relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Magers and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson of Peru, Ind; Mrs. George Barnholds, Stillwater; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tripp, Minneapolis; John Ronhovde, Duluth; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fleming, Vernon Center; Mr. and Mrs. George LaPierre, Lonsdale; Eugene LaPierre and son, Roman, St. Paul.

The Death Record for Henry McCarthy, said he was an attendant at the State School for Feeble Minded, and listed Henry as born on 24 Dec 1906. The death record stated that Cultures from State, showed Henry's Meningitis was due to Strep Hemolyticus.

     James (Jim) Joseph McCarthy was born on 27 February 1911 at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. He was the son of Jeremiah McCarthy and Mary C. McGinnis. James (Jim) Joseph McCarthy was baptized at Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota. He married Ann Musil, daughter of Frank Musil and Anna Kubec, on 9 September 1944. James (Jim) Joseph McCarthy died on 27 July 1987 at St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota, at age 76. He was buried on 29 July 1987 at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota.

Jeremiah McCarthy, a native and resident of Faribault for 59 years, died Sunday afternoon at the St. Lucas hospital where he had been seriously ill for some time. His home is at 1421 Fourth street Northwest. Mr. McCarthy was a painter by trade and had carried out his occupation practically all his life. He was born in Faribault 59 years ago and had lived here since. Surviving Mr. McCarthy are his wife and three sons, John, Will and Frank. A sister also survives him. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock at the Immaculate Conception church, with Father Ryan officiating.

The cause of death was consumption. 1875 MN Census listed value of real estate at $2000. Alice Morgan lists John's wife as Sara(h) Sheehy. John listed as a well-digger in his Death Record. Frank Trombley lists John born in Formay, Cork Co., Ireland; and that John's father had three brothers. Rice County Probate Record dated 28Jul1900 for John McCarthy, by Sara Bauer.

The following obituary notice was in the Faribault Republican, 06May1914:
Miss Sarah McCarthy died Saturday morning, May 2, at 9:30, and was buried Monday morning in Calvary cemetery. The funeral was held at 9 o'clock a.m. in the church of the Immaculate Conception, Father Cahil officiating. The pallbearers were Capt. McGinnis, John Liverseed, Peter Orth, B.J. Sheridan, Edward Sheridan and Thomas Sheridan.
Sarah Sheehy was born in Broadford, County Limerick, Ireland, on April 4, 1883 [sic, should be 1833]. At the age of 19 she came to this country. She is survived by six sons and one daughter. Her daughter, Bridget, now Mrs. J.M. Tracy, resides at Taylor, N.D. Her sons are Charles, now in Mexico; John of Minneapolis; James of Wheatland, and Joseph and Jeremiah of Faribault.
