AMHERST TOWNSHIP -- Virginia D. Martin (nee Uphold), 79, of Amherst Township, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Manor Care Nursing Home, North Olmsted, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Fairchance, Pa., and had been a resident of Amherst Township since 1993, moving from Mount Pleasant, S.C. She previously lived in North Ridgeville and Cleveland. She worked as a waitress and assembly line worker. She enjoyed cooking and collected recipe books. Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Robert O. Martin; daughters Karen Williams of North Ridgeville, Wanda Schaum of North Olmsted and Donna Harris; brother, David Harn of East Millsboro, Pa; sister Joanne Swartz of Goose Creek, S.C; half brother, Marion ''Dink'' Harn of Kent; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Victor Uphold; mother, Edith Harn; and brother, Ken ''Sonnie'' Uphold. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, where services will be Tuesday at 11:00 am. The Rev. Kevin Crow, pastor of Harvest Ridge Assembly of God, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.

The funeral of Joseph W. Vach, former Montgomery resident, was held at 10 am Monday August 25 at Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Montgomery. The Reverend Bernard Blaeser was officiating. Internment was at Calvary Cemetery this town. The pall-bearers were: William Chard, Robert Chard, LeRoy Chard, Myron Moly, Harry Vrzal and Peter Hruska.
Joseph W. Vach, son of the late James and Catherine Nestaval Vach, was born in Montgomery in February 23, 1886. The deceased attended elementary school in Montgomery. In April of 1914 he married Elizabeth in Montgomery and following the marriage lived in Montgomery till 1932 when he moved to St. Paul. Mr. Vach was a painter and decorator by trade. The deceased was a patient at Maplewood Manor Nursing home in St. Paul for the last 3 years where he passed away on Friday, August 22, being 83 years old. He was survived by one daughter Mrs. Theodore (Joyce) Worm, of BelleBlane (sic), 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Was preceded in death by parents, his wife died October 12, 1956, 1 sister and brother that died in infancy.
