     Mary Ann Rupel is the daughter of Maurice Eugene Rupel and Mary Elizabeth Tamplen. Mary Ann Rupel married Mark DeMaria PhD, son of Albert DeMaria and Grace Wilhelm, on 8 October 1983 at Estes Park, Colorado.

     Mary Clara Rupel was born on 10 August 1919 at Greene Twsp., St. Joseph Co., Indiana.¹ She was the daughter of Alexis Coquillard Rupel and Mary Elizabeth Drollinger.

     Mary Ellen Rupel was born circa 1852 at Indiana.¹ She was the daughter of David Rupel and Sarah Melling. Mary Ellen Rupel married Jonathan M. Cripe on 24 August 1876.¹ Ruple Family in America, 1988, by Jack D. Ruple Sr., pg 147,150.

     Maurice Eugene Rupel also went by the name of Mauri. He was born on 26 September 1925 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^1,2,3 He was the son of Alexis Coquillard Rupel and Mary Elizabeth Drollinger. Maurice Eugene Rupel graduated in 1948 at Colorado A&M, Fort Collins, Larimer Co., Colorado, civil engineering degree.¹

Maurice Rupel adopted Rosie & Larry Rupel in 1952, after he married Mary Elizabeth Tamplen Rupel (his brother Larry's children). Larry had married Mary Tamplen in 1946 and he passed away from Leukemia. Three years after Larry's death, Mauri married Mary in 1952.

He married Mary Elizabeth Tamplen, daughter of Luther Tamplen and Eura Mary Miller, on 14 April 1952 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Vernon, Wilbarger Co., Texas.⁴


Morning Ceremony Unites Couple at Catholic Church

In a quiet and impressive ceremony performed in the Holy Family Catholic Church at 8 o’clock Monday morning, April 14, Mrs. Mary Tamplen Rupel of 2312 14th Street, Vernon, became the bride of Maurice Rupel of South Bend. Ind.
Rev. Ed Shopka performed the double ring wedding ceremony before family members and close friends of the couple.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Tamplen of Crowell, was attired in a suit of beige imported linen with brown trim. She completed her costume with beige and brown accessories and a corsage of yellow gladioluses.
Miss Mildred Tamplen of Crowell attended her sister at the wedding. She was wearing a navy blue dress with pink accessories and a corsage of pink carnations.
Ray Tamplen of Lubbock, brother of the bride, attended the groom as best man.
Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was held in the Candlelight Room at Lloyd’s.
Mr. and Mrs. Rupel left for a wedding trip to points in Colorado, and upon their return will make their home in Dallas.
Mrs. Rupel is a graduate nurse and received her training at Lubbock Memorial Hospital. She has been president of the St. Anne’s Club at the Holy Family Catholic Church and very active in other church Affairs.
| The groom, son of Mrs. Alexis Rupel of South Bend, Ind, attended Notre Dame University and received his degree in construction engineering from Colorado A&M. He recently returned from Greenland, where he was employed in Government construction work.

Maurice Eugene Rupel

Maurice Eugene Rupel, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, was greatly loved and respected by all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and compassion were well known. He passed on to the loving arms of his Lord on May 5, 2023.

Maurice (Mauri) was an adventurer who gave his heart to the greatest adventure of all, humbly sacrificing his life, time, and resources to raising his children. Mauri was born on September 26, 1925, in South Bend, Indiana to Mary and Alexis Rupel. He was the youngest of twelve children and in 1943 became the seventh son of his family to enlist during World War II. After high school graduation in 1943 he joined the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet, but the war ended before he completed his aviation training. His older brother Ted convinced him to go west, and Mauri graduated from Colorado A & M in 1948 with a civil engineering degree. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. As a young man, he contributed to the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, worked in Wyoming, and was on the team that built Thule Air Base in Greenland.

In 1952 he married Mary Tamplen and raised six children while working in Texas for the next twenty years. In 1971 he moved his family to his beloved Colorado. Always serving others first, he and Mary moved back to Texas for a short while to take care of his mother-in-law. After that, Mauri and Mary remained in Colorado where Mauri eventually retired from the City of Fort Collins in 1986. During his life, Mauri served many others in various ways including the Knights of Columbus, other parish organizations, parent-teacher organizations, and the Boy Scouts. He was a dedicated fan of the University of Notre Dame and Colorado State University, but his heart belonged to Mary and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mauri’s faith was not a “resounding gong or a clashing cymbal” (1 Cor 13:1) but a subtle and powerful force for love. He set the example for all of us in love and civility. We will remember his patience, kindness, forbearance, hope and endurance. Mauri was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, and his son, the Reverend Lawrence Rupel. He is survived by three daughters and two sons and their spouses: Rosemarie and Gary Hirsch, Lt Col Pat and Norma Rupel, Dr. Ray Rupel, D.O. and Dr. Joanne Vitanza, M.D., Kay Bloedorn, and Anne and Dr. Mark DeMaria, PhD.      Nancy Rupel was born on 14 June 1818 at Butler Co., Ohio.² She was the daughter of Jacob Rupel and Ann Livengood. Nancy Rupel married Aaron Skinner on 17 October 1831 at Elkhart Co., Indiana.² Nancy Rupel died on 9 May 1878 at Indiana at age 59.² Jack D. Ruple lists Nancy and Aaron having two children, unnamed. Jack Coleman states Aaron Skinner married twice.

     Nellie Pearl Rupel was born on 8 August 1868.¹ She was the daughter of Franklin Rupel and Martha Jane Rockhill. Nellie Pearl Rupel married George Henry Walz, son of John Walz and Sophia Patrica Elenor Mainer, on 12 December 1894 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.² Nellie Pearl Rupel died on 24 April 1925 at age 56.¹

     Nora M. Rupel was born on 18 November 1853.¹ She was the daughter of John J. Rupel and Lydia Chord. Nora M. Rupel married Arthur J. Quay on 27 January 1877.¹

Osborn Dallas Rupel married Josephine Adelaide Coquillard, daughter of Benedict Michael Coquillard and Sophia Andre, on 15 December 1869 at St. Joseph Co, Indiana.¹ Osborn Dallas Rupel died on 30 March 1931 at St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 86.^2,3 Margaret Bullock listed Osborn's death at 30Mar1935. He was buried on 2 April 1931 at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, Greene Twsp., St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^4,3

     Oscar William Rupel was born on 25 June 1862 at Centre Twsp., St. Joseph Co., Indiana.¹ He married Arvilla (?) Oscar William Rupel was the son of Hiram Rupel and Laura Treadwell. Oscar William Rupel died on 30 May 1937 at Indiana at age 74.¹ He was buried at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, Greene Twsp., St. Joseph Co., Indiana.¹ Ruple Family in America, 1988, by Jack D.      Patrick Eugene Rupel is the son of Maurice Eugene Rupel and Mary Elizabeth Tamplen. Patrick Eugene Rupel married Norma Lee Montgomery on 8 January 1983 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Wichita, Wichita Co., Texas.

     Pearl Rupel was born on 6 October 1896 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Ernest Burr Rupel and Hallie Smith. Pearl Rupel married Wilbur Kingsley Abernathy on 10 June 1919 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^1,3 Pearl Rupel married Clifford Gordon Dunphy on 19 April 1942 at Lafayette, Indiana.³ Pearl Rupel died on 16 January 1999 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 102.^2,3

Pearl R Dunphy, 102, of South Bend, Ind., died following a brief illness at 2:35 a.m. on Saturday. Jan 16, in Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Dunphy was born on Oct 6, 1896, in South Bend, to Hallie S. (Smith) and Ernest B Rupel, and was a lifetime area resident
On June 10, 1919, in South Bend, as Pearl Rupel, she married W. Kingsley Abernethy, who died in July of 1928. On April 19, 1942, in Lafayette, Ind., she married Clifford G Dunphy, who died in May of 1977. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles K. Abernethy; a sister, Alice R Gammons; and by a grandson, David K Abernethy.
She is survived by a son, James R. (Marilyn) Abernethy of Bothell, Wash; a sister-in-law, Martha Abernethy of South Bend; a step-son, James M. (Janice) Dunphy of Westerville, Ohio; six grandchildren. Spike (Ann) Abernethy of South Bend, Tom (Susan) Abernethy of Carmel, Ind., J. Steven and Scott (Evelyn) Abernethy, both of Kennewick, Wash., Daniel (Judy) Abernethy of Seattle, Wash., and Brett Abernethy of Bothell; and by 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Donphy was employed as a buyer at the former Ellsworth Department Store in South Bend She was a graduate of Maryland College for Women and a member of First United Methodist Church and Kappa Alpha Theta Social Sorority.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a m. on Monday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 No. William Street, with Dr. Ellwood K. Smith of First United Methodist Church officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home. Cremation will take place with private family graveside services in Bowman Cemetery at a later date.

Phoebe Rupel married Andrew Yoder circa 1867.² Phoebe Rupel died on 12 December 1916 at age 77.² She was buried at Bowman Cemetery, Portage Twsp., St. Joseph Co., Indiana.¹ Phoebe and Andrew had two children, Beryl and Clyde. Also had 4 step-children, Joseph, William, Marilda, Ella.

     Rachel Rupel was also known as Ruple. She was born on 1 May 1836 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. She was the daughter of Jacob Rupel and Catherine Griffith. Rachel Rupel married Calvin Davis Harn, son of Elisha Lemuel Harn and Keziah Griswell, on 25 October 1856 at Niles, Berrien Co., Michigan.^1,2 Rachel Rupel was a Keeping-house. She and Calvin Davis Harn were divorced on 25 May 1887 at Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon.³ The 1900 Census has Rachel born Mar 1836, and married 44-years. Rachel Harn died on 9 January 1906 at Shieldsville, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 69.^4,5 Death Record lists name as "Rachel Ruple Harn", divorced. The cause of death was Neuralgia of Heart. She was buried circa 1906 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.⁶ In Harn Family Bible, Rachel's lastname listed as Rupel. Grave lists Rachel Rupel Harn 1836-1906. Death Record has parents as Jacob Ruple and C. Griffith of PA.

     Ralph Rupel was born circa 1894.¹ He was the son of Ernest Burr Rupel and Hallie Smith. Ralph Rupel died circa 1895.¹

     Robert Rupel was born circa 1853 at Indiana.¹ He was the son of Jacob P. Rupel and Ann Maria Stover. Robert Rupel married Anna D. White circa 1882.¹
