Mrs. Mildred Marine! Smith Eddy, 45, of Flovilla, Ga., died Thursday. She was employed as a Procurement Analyst for the U.S. Forces Command at Ft McPherson. In the Fall of 1993 Mrs. Eddy was awarded the Superior Civilian Service Award of the United States by General Dennis Reimer, F0RSC0M Commanding General. She was a member of the Gathers United Methodist Church in Newton County where she was a Sunday School Teacher, choir member and a member of the Women's Society. She had served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Survivors include her husband, Daniel Joseph Eddy, children, Laurel Christina Eddy, Nathan Daniel Eddy and Madeline Eddy, all of Flovilla; her parents, Malcom and Mildred Riley Smith, Flovilla; sister, Lillian Cowell, Falls "Church, VA; brothers, Russell Smith, Tucker; Rex Smith, Atlanta and Rod Smith, Flovilla. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Gaithers United Methodist Church in Newton County. Rev. Herman Goddard will officiate, with interment in the Flovilla Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 til 9 and at other times at the residence of Col. and Mrs. Malcom Smith in Flovilla. Norma Madeline Smith married Loring Lombard Tonkin, son of John Tonkin and Margaret Barnett, on 18 July 1913 at Trumansburg, Tompkins Co., New York.² Norma Madeline Smith died on 2 September 1961 at Clarksburg, Harrison Co., West Virginia, at age 69.^1,2,3 She was buried at Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, Harrison Co., West Virginia.³

     Opal Norine Smith was born on 13 July 1923 at Porterville, Tulare Co., California.¹ She married James Hartson Perkins Jr., son of James Wornom Perkins and Marjorie Josephine Unckles, on 7 December 1941 at Las Vegas, Clark Co., Nevada. Opal Norine Smith died on 11 January 2008 at Porterville, Tulare Co., California, at age 84.¹ She was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, Porterville, Tulare Co., California.¹

     Paul VanKirk Smith was born on 1 January 1920 at New York.¹ He was the son of Austin Percival Smith and Leah Anita Goodrich. Paul VanKirk Smith died on 12 January 1966 at Contra Costa Co., California, at age 46. Paul was unmarried as of 1957. He lived in May 1964 at Auburn, Placer Co., California.

     Sandra Jane Smith is the daughter of James W. Smith and Eileen Montez Shores. Sandra Jane Smith married David Eugene Warfel, son of George Steward Warfel and Mildred Fay Weidman, on 9 April 1966 at Basin, Big Horn Co., Wyoming.^1,2

     Sarah Smith was born on 15 October 1789 at Sussex Co., New Jersey. She married Henry L. Leighty, son of Jacob Leighty and Frances Fuchs, circa 1810 at Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. Sarah Smith died on 22 June 1828 at Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, at age 38.

     Shannon Leslie Smith is the daughter of William Everet Smith II and Barbara Jean Johnson.¹

     Shirley J. Smith was born on 29 March 1936 at Pennsylvania.¹ She married David Gerald Harn, son of Marion Alexander Harn and Edith L. Kennison. Shirley J. Born in San Francisco to Dr. William Evert Smith and Anita Mary (Giblin) Smith, Bill graduated from San Francisco State with a BS and a Masters in Education. He served in the Army during WWII hiking "from the Chanel to the Rhine". Moving to Concord in 1951 to work for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, he married Barbara Jean Johnson in 1952. He worked at Diablo Vista, Fair Oaks, Bel-Air, Riverview, Oak Grove and retired as principal in 1982 from El Dorado Intermediate with 33 years of service.
Bill spent happy years hiking, backpacking, tide pooling, square dancing, bowling, and sailing with friends and family. He volunteered during retirement and had a willing hand to help others.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; four children, Stuart (Brenda), Susan (Michael), Stacy, Shannon (Russell); four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister Annabelle Hays and brother Stanley (Marie). He is predeceased by his brother Robert Smith (Gail) and grandson Nathan Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pittsburg Yacht Club on October 26th at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to Hospice of the East Bay or your favorite charity.
