Death of J. R. Perkins.
J. R. Perkins, one of the old settlers of Stevens county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. H. Noel, at Mahnomen, Minn., on Tuesday, Nov. 5th, at the advanced age of 75 years. Mr. Perkins went to the home of his daughter in July, and although he was in fair health at that time, he was suffering from kidney trouble for which he had undergone an operation, and this proved to be the cause of his death in connection with the infirmities of old age. The remains were brought here on Wednesday, and the funeral was held yesterday from the Methodist church. Rev. F. A. Lawson preaching the funeral sermon.
John R. Perkins was born in Franklyn county, Maine, on April 28th, 1831. There he grew to manhood and on Feb. 22, 1853, was married to Hannah E. Judkins. About fifty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Perkins came to this state, settling first at Red Wing in Goodhue county, and from there coming to Morris in 1876. On April 26th, 1881, Mrs. Perkins died, and subsequently, Mr. Perkins married his present wife, who survives him. The surviving children by the first marriage are L. D. Perkins, of Swan Lake, C. R. Perkins, of Brewster, Wash., and Mrs. E. H. Noel, of Mahnome; and by the second marriage are Mae Perkins, Mrs. C. L. Hogan, Allie Perkins and Clarence Perkins.
Mr. Perkins first came to Morris in 1875, when he purchased a section of land north of town, which he later sold to Mr. Stanton. He moved here in 1876, and for some time run a hotel which stood where the Spooner Brick Block now stands, and was known as the Perkins House. After the death of his wife, Mr. Perkins returned to Red Wing for a matter of ten years, and then again in 1897 came back to Morris.
Mr. Perkins was a charter member of Morris Lodge, No. 55, A. O. U. W., which organization attended the funeral yesterday in a body.

M.T. Perkins received a telegram this morning stating that John R. Perkins, 80 years old, died at his home at Morris, Minn., yesterday. He was one of Goodhue county's pioneer residents. About twenty-five years ago he resided on a farm in Featherstone and some years after moved to Pierce county, Wisconsin. Later he moved to Morris, Minn., where he lived a retired life with his family. He is survived by several children with whom he made his home, also one sister, Mrs. Merrit Tripp, of this city, and two brothers, T.E. of Featherstone and C.E. Perkins of Kirkwood, Ill. The funeral will be held Friday at Morris.⁸

He was the son of Marshall Timothy Perkins and Anna Rolfe Purdy. Lawrence Rolfe Perkins married Dorothy Frances Barrette, daughter of Jeremiah J. Barrette and Mary Dues, on 5 April 1932 at Los Angeles Co., California. Lawrence Rolfe Perkins died on 17 December 1988 at Camp Sherman, Jefferson Co., Oregon, at age 86.⁴ In 1920 Census, Lawrence was listed as stock clerk in a bookstore.

Lawrence R. Perkins a resident of Camp Sherman for the past 12 years, died Saturday at St. Charles Medical Center. He was 86. No services will be held. Mr. Perkins was born July 5, 1902 in Redwing (sic) Minn. to Marshall and Anna (Rolf) Perkins. Until his retirement he had been a truck driver for a bakery. He is survived by a daughter, Donna Deignan of Camp Sherman, a son, Lawrence Perkins of Norwalk, Calif, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Baker's Union and the Teamsters. Tabor's Desert Hills Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
