     Freda Janet Beaver was born in April 1895 at Ida Grove, Ida Co., Iowa. She was the daughter of William A. Beaver and Maud W. (?) Freda Janet Beaver and Hugh Valentine Harn were engaged in September 1919 at Iowa.¹

Ida Grove Girl Is Humiliated by Mason City Man

Ida Grove, Sept. 11. --Romance received a hard blow here and one of the prominent young women of the town was left with badly lacerated feelings when a love affair, begun at the State University of Iowa, had an unexpected denouncement.
Miss Freda J. Beaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will A. Beaver was to have been married to Hugh Val Harn, of Mason City. Invitations had been issued, numerous prenuptials held, and arrangements were complete for the ceremony and the wedding breakfast at the Hotel Baxter.
The groom was to arrive on an early train and Miss Beaver was there to meet him. The train came, but no bridegroom, and thinking that he might have missed connections, the bride-to-be waited for the next train from Mason City. When he failed to appear on this one as well, she called up his office, but was told that he was very busy and asked to call later. When she made the second call, Harn refused to talk.
So far, the bride, her parents and the guests who had been Invited to the wedding are able to provide no explanation for the action of the expected bridegroom.

S.U.I. ROMANCE IS SHATTERED AT ALTAR

The story comes to this city of the shattered romance of two former students of the University of Iowa, Miss Freda J. Beaver of Ida Grove and Hugh Val Harn or Mason City. The wedding of these two young people who are well known in this city was to have taken place Monday, Sept. 1, but after all arrangements were made to the smallest detail, the groom created no little stir by failing to appear. Invitations had been sent out, a number of showers and social functions had been given in honor of the prospective bride. The wedding breakfast ready and the groom was scheduled to arrive Saturday, Aug. 30. The bride was at the station to meet her future spouse but he failed to put in an appearance. Later trains did not bring him and no reason came for his non-appearance. Miss Beaver finally reached the young man's office by telephone but was told he was too busy to talk. A second call brough the information that he "did not care to talk." So far the bride, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will A. Beaver, and guests can find no explanation for the action of the bridegroom. The newspapers of Ida Grove, the bride's residence, have hurled the name of "cad" and "coward" at the former Hawkeye student and the whole community seems thoroughly indignant over the occurrence

     Carl Beck was born in 1870. He married Lauretta Harn, daughter of William Harn and Mary Elizabeth Schlosser. Carl Beck died in 1951. He was buried on 25 October 1951 at Old Sunnyside Cemetery, Sunnyside, Yakima Co., Washington, Plot: Old section across the road, Block C, Lot 21, Grave 1.

     Donald Elbbert Beck was born on 3 November 1920 at Sykesville, Carroll Co., Maryland. He married Etta Virginia Stem, daughter of Arthur Washington Stem Sr. and Claire V. Dixow, on 11 February 1939 at Virginia; Certificate Number:      1939003587. Donald Elbbert Beck died on 11 October 2004 at age 83.

     Trina Lynette Beck is the daughter of Bruce Beck and Linda (?)¹ Trina Lynette Beck married Chad Elliot Thompson, son of Gary Duane Thompson and Betty Jane Spilman, on 18 April 1998 at Rochester, Olmsted Co., Minnesota.^1,2

     Floyd Clarence Beckelhymer was born on 15 April 1909 at Bardolph, McDonough Co., Illinois.¹ He married Lula M. Morgan, daughter of Harvey Ferdinand Morgan and Mary Ellen Jenkins, in 1943. Floyd Clarence Beckelhymer died on 14 November 1990 at Cuba, Fulton Co., Illinois, at age 81.¹ He was buried at Good Hope Cemetery, Good Hope, McDonough Co., Illinois.¹

     Leah Gwynn Beckett was born on 12 March 1895 at San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California.¹ She married Charles Corbet, son of Burk Corbet and Sara E. Ingraham, in 1917. Leah Gwynn Beckett died on 21 August 1970 at San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California, at age 75.¹ She was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, Alameda Co., California.¹

Former Vancouver resident Jack D. Beecher died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in Vaughn. He was 66. Mr. Beecher, a home builder, enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and baseball.
He was born June 21, 1934, in Bemidji, Minn., and lived in Vancouver before moving to Vaughn 17 years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Leslie, at home; his stepfather, Johnny Patterson of Vancouver; two daughters, Michelle Beecher of Estacada, Ore., and Lora Yates of Lincoln, Kan; three sons. Bill of Portland, Anthony of Vancouver and Gregg of Cortez, Colo; one sister, Sharon Patterson of Vancouver; and 12 grandchildren. A funeral will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel.

     Christopher Lawrence Behm was born on 24 March 1961 at Mason City, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa.^1,2 He was the son of John Wesley Behm Sr. and Mary Louise Graner. Christopher "Chops" L. Behm, 52, of Charles City and formerly of Mason City, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
A funeral service for Chris will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Paul Schaefer from the Plymouth Bible Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

A visitation with a public viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at the funeral home.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Chris' name in care of his family.

Christopher Lawrence Behm, son of John and Mary Lou (Graner) Behm, was born March 24, 1961, in Mason City, Iowa. Chris attended Mason City High School and graduated with the Class of 1979. During his high school career, Chris was active in football for four years, winning the State Championship in 1978.
Following his high school education, Chris had several jobs and was active in the Mason City High School football program, coaching for over 10 years. Chris later worked in the automotive business as a salesman for over 20 years, selling Ford vehicles and later worked at Pritchard Family Auto Stores in Mason City until the time of his death.

Chris was never hesitant in dropping a dollar bill in a slot machine at local casinos. He enjoyed watching sports, riding bike and loved his family. Chris was a genuine man who silently gave his heart to many in the Mason City community.

Chris is survived by his parents, John Sr. and Mary Lou Behm, Mason City; brothers, John (Diane) Behm Jr., Des Moines, Tim (Charlotte Clark) Behm, Mason City, and Scott (Leslie) Behm, Mason City; nieces, Kelli Behm, Chicago, Ill., Tori Behm, Des Moines, Mary Behm, Minneapolis, Minn., Sarah Behm, Mason City, and Cassie and Sydney Behm, both of Naples, Fla; aunts, Shirley Behm, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Millie (Norm) Mondahl, Harrison, Alaska, Patricia (Larry) Syzmecek, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Joan (Joe) Evans, Mason City; his coach and good friend, Ed Lenius, Mason City, along with several cousins and many of his loyal customers who he considered family.

John W. Behm, Sr., 84, of Mason City, died Sunday, March 7, 2021 while on vacation.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City with Pastor Paul Schaefer of the Plymouth Bible Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

John's family will greet relatives and friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel.

Born and raised in Mason City, John Wesley Behm was born on October 28, 1936 to Lawrence and Helen (Stoeber) Behm. He attended Mason City High School, graduating among the class of 1954 before enlisting in the United States Army. John faithfully served his country from October of 1954 through July of 1957 when he received his honorable discharge from Fort Lewis Washington.

On April 2, 1955, while serving in the Army, John was united in marriage to Mary Lou Graner in Silver Spring, Maryland. Together they would be blessed with four sons and 63 years of marriage.

John was well known in the area for his long tenure in auto sales. For over forty years John worked for Lafrenz Ford in Mason City before finishing his career with Pritchard's in Clear Lake. John was blessed to work alongside his sons for a number of years; 45 years, 40 years, and 20 years with Tim, Scott, and Chris, respectively.

John enjoyed shooting the breeze with friends and spending time on the family farm where he always seemed to keep busy. He was a devoted father and grandfather and together he and Mary Lou spent countless hours attending their grandchildren's athletic events throughout the years.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are children, John (Diane) Behm, Jr., Des Moines, Timothy (Charlotte) Behm, Mason City, and Scott (Leslie) Behm, Mason City; granddaughters, Mary Behm, Mason City, Kelli Christian, Chicago, Sarah (Garrett) Black, Mason City, Cassie Behm, Boca Raton, FL, Tori (Kaleb Carstarphen) Behm, Indianola, and Sydney Behm, Boca Raton, FL; grandson, Christopher Platts, Fairmont; great grandchildren, George Christopher Black, Vivian Platts, Evelyn Ann Black and Cameron Carstarphen; and in laws, Shirley Behm, Mildred "Millie" (Norman) Mondahl, Patricia "Pat" (Larry) Syzmeczek, Joan Evans (special friend Joe Ricketts), John Alitz, and Cheryl Graner; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Helen; wife, Mary Lou; son, Christopher "Chops" Behm; father and mother in law, Lewis and Frances Graner; brother, Donald Behm; and nephew, Matthew Syzmeczek.
