     Mara A. Hasbaugh was born on 21 December 1848 at Pennsylvania.¹ She married Andrew Rupel, son of David Rupel and Sarah Melling, on 3 September 1868 at St. Joseph Co., Indiana.¹ Mara A. Hasbaugh died on 22 June 1931 at Indiana at age 82.¹

JEROME HATTEN. Men who begin life with no capital but hands and brains, and myriads to compete with in the struggle for a competency, and come out victorious, winning by honesty, frugality and industry, truly deserve to have perpetuated their life's record. Such a man is the subject of this biographical notice, who is the son of Robert and Rachel (Brown) Hatten. The former was a native of Pennsylvania, born in Easton in 1806, and was reared to farming. Politically, he was a democrat. He was an earnest and faithful worker in the Methodist Episcopal Church for years, but his influence and work were by no means confined to the church; he was always ready to help the poor or do good in any way when opportunities presented themselves. He was married Miss Rachel Brown, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1808. She, like her husband, was a zealous worker in the Methodist Episcopal Church, proving the sincerity of her profession in her daily walk and conversation. Mr. Hatten departed this life in 1873, followed by his wife in 1886. To them were born seven children, viz.--Theodore, John (deceased), Sarah Jane (deceased), Alfred, Morris, Mary and Jerome.
Jerome, the subject of this sketch, was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., in 1847. He remained at home till going to the war, enlisting in Company A, Eighty-eighth Pennsylvania volunteers, in 1864. He was in several skirmishes; was in the battle of Five Forks, and followed Lee till the time of his surrender; he then marched to Washington and was in the grand review. He was mustered out the tenth of June, 1865. He then located in Pennsylvania, and there remained till 1878, when he came to Nebraska, settling on section 2, township 9, range 17 west, in Odessa township, Buffalo county. Mr. Hatten first found employment, after coming to the state, with Mr. B. L. Cunningham, for whom he worked by the month for one year; he then took the homestead and timber claim which he now owns, the most of which is under cultivation and well improved. Mr. Hatten is not a man whose energies are slackened by unfavorable conditions of times, but, believing that honest labor judiciously directed will be rewarded, has practiced economy and given close attention to the details of his business, so that each year finds a balance in his favor. He is a republican in politics. Mr. Hatten has been an unpretentious but consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for years. In 1871, he was married to Miss Mary Ellen Harvey, born in Fairmont Township, Luzerne County, Pa. She is the daughter of Lewis and Diana (Boston) Harvey, both natives of Pennsylvania, and the former a supporter of the republican ticket. Lewis Harvey was born July 12, 1816, and Diana (Boston) Harvey July 8, 1821. They were married August 1 1840, and had born to them the following children -Almira P., January 28, 1842; Mary E., January 9,1843; Harriet A., December 18, 1850. Lewis Harvey died September 14, 1881, but Diana Harvey still survives.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey were co-workers in the Methodist Episcopal Church, with which church they were identified for years. Mrs. Hatten is also a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. To Mr. and Mrs. Hatten have been born seven children, viz.--Nellie, Maud, Eckford, Ralph, Boyd, Ida and Ora.¹ Jerome Hatten married Mary Ellen Harvey, daughter of Lewis Harvey and Diana Boston, in 1871.¹ Jerome Hatten died on 21 July 1928 at Kansas.² He was buried at Hope Cemetery, Ottawa, Franklin Co., Kansas.²

     John Hatten was the son of Robert Hatten and Rachel Brown.¹

     Mary Hatten was the daughter of Robert Hatten and Rachel Brown.¹

     Maud Nina Hatten was born on 21 November 1874 at Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Jerome Hatten and Mary Ellen Harvey.¹ Maud Nina Hatten married John Franklin Fellows, son of Albert A. Fellows and Margaret M. Haines, on 1 January 1896 at Missouri.^1,2 Maud Nina Hatten died on 12 September 1961 at Kearney, Buffalo Co., Nebraska, at age 86. She was buried at Riverdale Cemetery, Riverdale, Buffalo Co., Nebraska.³

     Morris Hatten was the son of Robert Hatten and Rachel Brown.¹

     Robert Hatten married Rachel Brown.¹ Robert Hatten was born in 1806 at Easton, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania.¹ He died in 1873.¹

     Robert Emmett Hatten was born on 17 July 1891 at Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin. He married Ruth Helen Warfel, daughter of James Stewart Warfel and Harriet Edwards, on 11 January 1911 at Salem, Dent Co., Missouri. Robert Emmett Hatten died on 28 November 1948 at Salem, Fresno Co., California, at age 57.

     Sarah Jane Hatten was the daughter of Robert Hatten and Rachel Brown.¹

     Theodore Hatten was the son of Robert Hatten and Rachel Brown.¹

     Charles Fred Hauck died on 9 February 1889 at Litchfield, Sherman Co., Nebraska. He was born on 9 February 1889 at Mason City, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa.^1,2 He married Zella Hague Lilly, daughter of Samuel Wesley Lilly and Mary Jane Hague, on 21 March 1917 at Grand Island, Hall Co., Nebraska.³ Charles Fred Hauck filled out a World War II Draft Registration card.⁴ Charles Fred Hauck died on 19 January 1967 at Caldwell, Canyon Co., Idaho, at age 77.⁵ He was buried at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, Canyon Co., Idaho.⁵

     Thomas R. Hauck and Darylene M. Cholowsky were engaged.¹

     Charles Eugene Hauert was born on 7 November 1936 at Porterville, Tulare Co., California. He was the son of Ezra Eugene Hauert and Mary Marjorie Perkins. Charles Eugene Hauert married Kay Annette Johnson on 16 August 1957 at Tulare Co., California. Charles Eugene Hauert died on 8 June 2002 at Tulare Co., California, at age 65.

     Ezra Eugene Hauert was born on 18 October 1912 at Arkansas. He married Mary Marjorie Perkins, daughter of James Wornom Perkins and Marjorie Josephine Unckles. Ezra Eugene Hauert died on 12 March 1989 at Tulare Co., California, at age 76.

     Meredith Solvieg Haugen was born on 23 June 1918 at Hennepin Co., Minnesota. She married Orlando Gerhard Lien, son of Andrew Gunderson Lien and Anna Olsdatter Lockrem, on 9 June 1951 at Dennison, Goodhue Co., Minnesota. Meredith Solvieg Haugen died on 25 July 1999 at Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 81.

     Albert P. Hauschild Jr. was born on 8 August 1915.¹ He married Ruth McMurtry, daughter of Claude Edward McMurtry and Ferne Irene Fellows, on 20 October 1942 at Hastings, Adams Co., Nebraska. Albert P. Hauschild Jr. died on 10 March 1984 at age 68.¹ He was buried at Highland Park Cemetery, Ravenna, Buffalo Co., Nebraska.¹

EDWARD G. HAVEL
Edward G. Havel, 82, of 3802 S. 19th St., died Thursday at his home. A native of Minnesota, he had lived in Tacoma since 1888. He retired from the Tacoma Smelter in 1948 after 30 years' service.
He had managed the Rhein Hotel here in the early 1900s. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Aerie No. 3, since 1903, and a member of the Golden Age Club and the Tacoma 50-year Club.
He is survived by a son, Edward J., of Tacoma; a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Kiakona, of Honolulu; two brothers, Dr. Fred Havel, of El Monte, Calif., and Joseph, of San Francisco; two sisters, Mrs. Electa
Elthand, of San Francisco, and Mrs. Nora Ritschell, of Carmel, Calif; and three grandchildren.
Services will be announced by the C. C. Mellinger Co.

RENO, Oct. 18.—Wilhelm Ritschel, landscape and marine artist, was granted a divorce here today from Belle Zora Ritschel on grounds of mental cruelty. They married in Riverside, Calif., April 17, 1917, according to the complaint. Ritschel later took out a license to marry Elanora Havel, who gave her address as Reno.

yesterday divorced the retired Army colonel she married just three months ago after a whirlwind courtship that began in a voting booth.
Her vows to Lt. Col. Roland E. Doan last June 2, at the Monterey Presidio came as a big surprise to members of the art colony at Carmel Highlands, where Mrs. Doan lives.
While the colonel looked on stony faced in a corridor outside the courtroom here, just before his wife obtained her divorce, Mrs. Doan declared to friends:
"As far as I am concerned this marriage was over just after the honeymoon started.”
Mrs. Doan’s first husband, William Ritschel, was 84 when he died in the Carmel Highlands home he built with his own hands. He was for years a central figure in the art colony there. Mrs. Ritschel was his secretary when they were married in 1930.
