Harn while in the service of the Confederate Army, and for many years while we both lived in Texas after the war, the name is spelled Horn in some of the rolls that were made of this Regiment, but Harn is the proper name, and W. Part of the pension application included copy of burial notice for Col. Tyler D. Harn:
"Waco, Texas, May 29, The funeral and burial of Col. Tyler D. Harn, this afternoon, at Oakwood, was attended by his comrades of Pat Uleburne Camp, and veterans of neighboring camps, as well as Union Veterans. Col. Harn's title as Colonel was a militia preferment by the governor after peace was restored.
He served during the war in the twenty-sixth Texas Calvary, commanded by DeBray, and by gallantry won a Captain's commission. He brought away from the army, after the surrender, his broadsword, spurs, camp-knife, and the colors of his regiment, all of which were in sight and lent interest to the funeral today. After the stroke of paralysis yesterday, he never recovered.
The last few murmurings that escaped his lips related to incidents of the war in which he participated. His walls were hung with pictures of Generals Lee, Stuart Jackson, Beauregard and other Southern commanders. All his surroundings were indicative of the bent of his mind, which was military and Southern to a high degree.
He was buried near the Confederate monument, Rev. Frank Page, the chaplain of the Pat Cleburne Camp, officiating, and his grave was decorated by his comrades of the group and the veterans of the blue, by whom he was highly esteemed."3
He died on 28 May 1897 at McLennan Co., Texas, at age 59.3,4 He was buried on 29 May 1897 at Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, McLennan Co., Texas, Plot: Block 9. Lot 26.3,4,5
