Howard Hartley

KALISPELL - Howard B. Hartley, 88, a retired construction worker, died Friday in a Kalispell nursing home. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Mortuary. Burial will be in the Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Born Nov. 15, 1902, in Turtle River, Minn., he came to Montana with his parents who homesteaded at Hinsdale. He farmed there until 1933 when he moved to Polson where he worked on construction and drove a school bus. He moved to Kalispell in 1949 and continued working in construction, including Hungry Horse Dam. Hartley retired in 1967, the first laborer to retire from Laborers Union Local 1334.

He married Dorothy Morgan on Nov. 3, 1943, in Reno, Nev.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Raymond of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Jack and Jerry, both of Kalispell; daughters, Jean Wilkerson and Opal Dougherty, both of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Judy Walsh of Pasco, Wash; a brother, Harlan Hartley of Stevenson, Wash; sisters, Zelda Garr of Great Falls, Irma Brown of Fort Peck and Velma Reber of Helena, and many grandchildren and great -grandchildren.

KALISPELL - Funeral services for Lester V. Hartley, 67, who died in Kalispell Saturday, will be in the Johnson Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial in Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 1, 1906, at Fosston, Minn. He attended school at Thoney and in 1928 married Viola Watson. She died in 1934. He then married Mildred Forman of Polson in 1937. He ranched near Polson and later in the Bitterroot area before retiring and moving to Kalispell. In 1948 he married Elsie Smith.

Survivors include three children, Vernon of Union City, Tenn., Tana Keller of Eureka, Calif., and Sydney Jerress of Anchorage, Alaska; three brothers, Erton of Portola, Calif., Howard of Kalispell and Harland of Washougal, Wash; and four sisters, Gladys Osterman of Lakeside, Ore., Zelda Garr of Great Falls, Irma Brown of Fort Peck and Velma Reber of Helena; and two stepchildren, Hazel and Darrell Hartley of Kalispell.

Lloyd Raymond Hartley died on 15 August 1962 at Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington, at age 58.1 He was buried at Riverside Memorial Park, Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington.1
