The marriage of Charlotte daughter of the late Zack Macaulay and Mrs. Macaulay of Montreal to Mr. Clayton Charles Purdy, son of the late W.H. Purdy and of Mrs. Purdy of Hanna, Alta., took place on Saturday afternoon at five o’clock in Wesley United Church, the Rev. Norman A McMurray officiating. Mr. John Cook played the wedding music and Miss Dorothy Leather sang during the signing of the register. Tulips were used to decorate

The bride who was given away by her brother, Mr. Malcolm J. Macaulay, was in a gown of brocaded satin. Her veil of tulle illusion was held by a matching headdress and she carried a nosegay of carnations and sweetpeas.

Mrs. J. A. Jessop, as matron-of-honor and Miss Ruth Jamieson and Miss Pauline Goodin as bridesmaids were in frocks of taffeta. Mrs. Jessop being in yellow, Miss Jamieson in pale mauve and Miss Goodin in pale green. Mrs. Jessop wore a Dutch cap to match her frock and the bridesmaids wore hats to match their frocks: they all carried nosegays of sweetpeas.

Mr. Brian Rowbotham acted as best man for Mr. Purdy and the ushers were Mr. Robert D Macaulay, the bride’s brother and Mr. John Alan Jessop, brother-in-law of the bride.

Mrs. Macaulay, the bride’s mother was gowned in grey crepe and wore a blue hat and accessories and a corsage bouquet of pink carnations. Mrs. Purdy, mother of the bridegroom, wore a gown of navy blue crepe with a matching hat and white accessories. The reception was held at the residence of the bride’s mother where tulips and white lilac were used as decorations.

Later Mr. and Mrs. Purdy left by plane for New York and the Southern States, the bride travelling in a suit of brown checked wool and wearing cameo brown accessories.

Among the out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. R. Jamieson, Mr. John Jamieson, Mr. Gerald Jamieson and Mr. Jack Adams of Ottawa; Mrs. F. C. Goodin. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Maclver of Scotstown. Que., Mr. and Mrs. Len Maclver of Sherbrooke.

He died on 5 August 1864 at Ithaca, Tompkins Co., New York, at age 72.^1,2 The cause of death was internal injury caused by kick of a calf, ruptured abdomen.      David Purdy was born on 30 March 1793.² He was the son of Gabriel Purdy and Esther Angevine.¹ David Purdy died on 26 August 1885 at Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 92.

     David Willets Purdy was born on 16 January 1840 at Ithaca, Tompkins Co., New York.³ David Willets Purdy was a farmer. He was the son of Samuel Haskell Purdy and Jane H. Willets. David Willets Purdy married Frances Mary Rolfe, daughter of Levi Rolfe and Eliza Williams. David Willets Purdy died on 19 October 1900 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota, at age 60.³ The cause of death was too much liquor. David Purdy who died at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, who born in Ithaca, N.Y., on Jan. 16, 1840. He came to Goodhue county in 1864, first settling in Goodhue township. He then moved to Burnside where he resided until years ago when he came to Red Wing. He is survived by a wife and four children, Mrs. M.T. Perkins, Mrs. A.H. Perkins, S.H. Purdy, Jr., and Wm. H. Purdy. He also leaves his father, S.H. Purdy, Sr. The funeral services will be held at the residence, 712 East avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. C.C. Rollit officiating. The internment will be in Oakwood cemetery.¹

     David Willets Purdy was born on 7 August 1897 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota.² He was the son of Samuel Haskell Purdy and Anne Marie Ceder. David Willets Purdy completed a World War I Registration Card.³ David Willets Purdy married Ella Lamb, daughter of Julius A. Lamb and Elizabeth Ruth Phillips, on 5 September 1935 at Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Co., California. David Willets Purdy lived in 1962 at Monrovia, Los Angeles Co., California. He died circa November 1965 at California.⁴ He died on 29 November 1965 at Los Angeles Co., California, at age 68.⁵

     Deborah Catherine Purdy was born on 29 June 1834.¹ She was the daughter of Gabriel Purdy and Sarah Embree. Deborah Catherine Purdy married Deacon John Richardson Steele Purdy, son of Gilbert Purdy and Sarah Knight, on 6 March 1856.¹ Deborah Catherine Purdy died in 1901.¹

     Donna Rosetta Purdy was born on 11 July 1891 at Kingfisher, Kingfisher Co., Oklahoma.¹ She was the daughter of Myron Sellon Purdy and Carrie Coykendall. Donna Rosetta Purdy married Benjamin Harrison Long on 31 October 1917. Donna Rosetta Purdy lived in 1962 at Coffeyville, Montgomery Co., Kansas. She died on 23 January 1968 at Coffeyville, Montgomery Co., Kansas, at age 76.

     Dorothy Marie Purdy was born on 23 July 1903 at Burnside, Goodhue Co., Minnesota.² She was the daughter of Samuel Haskell Purdy and Anne Marie Ceder. Dorothy Marie Purdy married Herbert Merlin McLaird, son of William McLaird and Harriet Sowden, on 21 July 1928. Dorothy Marie Purdy lived in 1960 at La Crescent, Houston Co., Minnesota. Her Social Security Number was 470-54-8672 issued in Minnesota in 1963. She died on 20 November 1983 at Lake Benton, Lincoln Co., Minnesota, at age 80.³ She was buried at Memorial Hill Cemetery, Lake Benton, Lincoln Co., Minnesota.

     Ebenezer Purdy was born on 15 March 1763.¹ He was the son of Jonathan Purdy and Charity Hadden. Ebenezer Purdy married Eunice Purdy on 29 December 1788. Ebenezer Purdy died on 8 October 1813 at age 50.¹

     Ebenezer Purdy was born on 1 December 1814.^2,3 He was the son of David Purdy and Elizabeth Ann Hopkins. Ebenezer Purdy was baptized on 14 June 1820.² He married Sarah Ann DuBois on 18 January 1838. Ebenezer Purdy died on 9 October 1898 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota, at age 83.^2,3 The cause of death was old-age.

Ebenezer Purdy died at his home in Red Wing, on Sunday, Oct. 9; age of 83 years, 11 months and 8 days. Mr. Purdy has been a resident of Goodhue county for twenty years, the last ten years residing in Red Wing. The funeral services will be held at the house tomorrow afternoon, at 2 o'clock, and will be private. The remains will be taken to Itika (sic), N.Y., for interment.


EBENEZER PURDY Obituary

Ebenezer Purdy, a former resident of Ithaca, died at his home in Red Wing, Minn., Oct. 6th, in the 84th year of his age. His remains will be brought to Ithaca for interment. He was one of a family of twelve children, of whom there are four survivors: Samuel H. Purdy and Oliver Purdy, of Red Wing, Minn. Mrs. Edgar Brewer, of Enfield and Mrs. E.C. Van Kirk of this city.

Mr. Purdy was a man of unblemished character, stern integrity, and universally trusted and respected by all who knew him. One daughter, Mary survives him.

Mr. Purdy lived for many years at the corner of Albany and Green streets. He was a member of the village board of trustees in 1870-1. He built, and for many years conducted, the Newfield woolen mills. When he removed to Ithaca he entered the employ of the Waterworks Company as foreman of the pipe-laying. He supervised the building of the Scott and Buttermilk creek dams.

     Elijah Purdy was born on 27 April 1729.^1,2,3 He was the son of Jonathan Purdy and Mary Hart. Elijah Purdy married Levinia Haight, daughter of David Haight and Millecent Lane. Elijah Purdy died on 8 August 1816 at age 87.^1,2,3 He was buried at Jonathan Purdy Family Cemetery, White Plains, Westchester Co., New York.^2,3

     Elijah Purdy was born circa 1767 at Digby, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.¹ He was the son of Gabriel Purdy and Bethia Miller. Elijah Purdy died circa 1837.¹ His Ancestral File Number is RKMQ-JP.

     Elizabeth Purdy was the daughter of Jonathan Purdy and Charity Hadden.

     Elizabeth Purdy was born on 3 October 1775.² She was the daughter of Samuel Purdy. Elizabeth Purdy married Benjamin Purdy, son of Jonathan Purdy and Charity Hadden. Elizabeth Purdy died on 1 April 1853 at age 77.² She was buried at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, Westchester Co., New York.²

     Elizabeth Ann Purdy was born on 3 September 1825.¹ She married John Wakeman Holberton. Elizabeth Ann Purdy was the daughter of David Purdy and Elizabeth Ann Hopkins. Elizabeth Ann Purdy died on 27 November 1850 at age 25.¹

     Elizabeth Richardson Purdy was born on 8 December 1836.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Flintiff Purdy and Margaret Knight.¹ Elizabeth Richardson Purdy married Samuel Crawford, son of William Henderson Crawford and Charity Purdy.²

     Emery Purdy married Romeyn (?) Emery Purdy was born on 13 July 1797 at Westchester Co., New York.¹ He was the son of Ebenezer Purdy and Eunice Purdy. Emery Purdy died on 30 March 1863 at New York Co., New York, at age 65. He was buried at Green-wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York.²

     Emery Purdy was also known as Emory. He was born on 8 October 1818 at Westchester Co., New York.² He was the son of David Purdy and Elizabeth Ann Hopkins. Emery Purdy was baptized on 14 June 1820.² Emery Purdy was a Farmer. He married Frances Caroline Monell. Emery Purdy married Lucy H. Young on 4 December 1866. Emery Purdy died on 18 September 1872 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota, at age 53.² The cause of death was Acute neuralgia and congestion of the Lungs. He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota.³ Death Record states that Emery arrived in Minnesota in 1864.

At Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, in block B, lot number 169 is the grave of Emery Purdy (My Husband, Emery Purdy, Born Oct 3, 1820, died Sep 13, 1872). To the immediate right of the tall grave for Emery, is a small memorial in the shape of a book, with the only words being of EMERY PURDY. There is also a Grand Army of the Republic memorial staked alongside the grave.

Died in Red Wing, on Thursday morning September 19th, Mr. Emery Purdy, aged 53 years and 11 months. Mr. Purdy was formerly a resident of Ithaca, N.Y. He was member of a large family consisting of six brothers and six sisters, whose attachment for each other was peculiarly warm. Two of the brothers Haschal and William, are living in immediate neighborhood of the late residence of the deceased and are widely known and respected in this vicinity. One of the brothers died in the army of the Potomac, in the deceased also served as Captain in the 10th New York regiment of cavalry, from 1861 to 1864. In 1864, Mr. Purdy came to Red Wing. During his residence here he successfully engaged in farming. He held the position of President of the Goodhue County Agricultural Society for three years, and contributed much to its efficiency. Those who have shared the hospitality of his home, and who knew him most intimately, speak warmly of his courtesy and kind of heart. His sickness was of only one week's continuance, taking the form of acute neuralgia, and congestion of the lungs. Not until a few hours before his death was he considered dangerously ill by his family. As he had been a man of unusual strength of constitution his sudden and untimely death occasioned a shock in the community such as has rarely been experienced here.

     Emma Purdy was born on 26 January 1862 at Goodhue Co., Minnesota.^1,2 She was the daughter of David Willets Purdy and Frances Mary Rolfe. Emma Purdy died on 3 October 1865 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota, at age 3.^1,2 She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota.²

     Esther Purdy was born on 3 May 1801.¹ She was the daughter of Gabriel Purdy and Esther Angevine.¹ Esther Purdy died in 1819.¹

     Esther Angevine Purdy was born on 6 August 1826.¹ She was the daughter of Gilbert Purdy and Sarah Knight.¹ Esther Angevine Purdy died on 20 August 1900 at age 74.¹

     Eunice Purdy was born on 17 April 1765.¹ She married Ebenezer Purdy, son of Jonathan Purdy and Charity Hadden, on 29 December 1788. Eunice Purdy died on 1 August 1853 at age 88.² She was buried at Vault No. 75, New York Marble Cemetery, Manhattan, New York Co., New York.²
