William F. Weidman
William Frederick Weidman was born on 4 April 1868 at St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on 4 April 1871 at Manchester, St. Louis Co., Missouri.2 He was the son of Henry Weidman and Mary Benyas.1 William Frederick Weidman married Jane Walker, daughter of Charles Green Walker and Malissa A. Elder, on 21 March 1903 at Livingston, Park Co., Montana. The cause of death was cerebral trauma in an automobile accident, severe cuts and lacerations on head and neck.3

William Frederick Weidman died on 19 December 1934 at Stillwater Hospital, Columbus, Stillwater Co., Montana, at age 63.3,2

ROBERTS FARMER DIES IN COLUMBUS MISHAP, FLYING GLASS CUTS JUGULAR VEIN WHEN CAR COLLIDES WITH A TRUCKLOAD OF BALED HAY
William F. Weidman, 63, farmer in the Roberts neighborhood for the past 27 years, died early Wednesday in a Columbus hospital from injuries received about midnight in an auto- mobile accident just this side of Columbus. Flying glass from the collision of the machine in which he was riding with a truckload of hay cut his throat, severing a jugular vein.
The injured man was taken to the Columbus hospital but surgical skill was unequal to the task. Weidman had driven to Columbus from Roberts Tuesday night, with a Harris boy as driver, to meet Mrs. Weidman and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Weidman, son and daughter-in-law, who were returning from a visit in Butte. After taking them from the train the party started home in the Harris machine.
Just after leaving the Yellowstone bridge this side of Columbus the car collided with the truckload of baled hay, glaring lights contributing to the accident. Weidman opened the door of the car as the glass struck him and stepped or fell onto the roadway and from there rolled down the high, steep bank of the bridge approach. Bruised and bleeding he was taken from there to the hospital. No other occupants of the car were injured.
The body was brought to Red Lodge Wednesday morning and is at the Martin funeral parlors. Funeral arrangements have not yet been Imade. Surviving are the widow and several sons and daughters.
Weidman was a native of Missouri, born in 1871 near St. Louis. He came to Montana in 1898, settling near Big Timber, where he lived for nine years, and from there came to Roberts to engage in ranching and stock raising.

RITES CONDUCTED FOR WM. WEIDMAN, ACCIDENT VICTIM, Roberts Rancher Died At Columbus Hospital From Injuries
Funeral services for William F. Weidman, 62-year-old Roberts rancher who died at a Columbus hospital early last Wednesday from injuries received in an automobile accident near there the previous Evening, were conducted at the Roberts Methodist-Episcopal church at 1:30 p. m. Saturday, the Rev. H. W. Woods of Red Lodge officiating. Interment was in the Roberts cemetery.
Together with Lawrence Harris, 14, also of Roberts, and in a car belonging to young Harris' father, Ned Harris, Mr. Weidman had motored to Columbus Tuesday afternoon to meet his wife and his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Weidman, and their child, who were returning from a visit with relatives and friends at Butte.
Leaving Columbus for Roberts with young Harris driving the machine, the party had proceeded to a point a few rods south of the Yellowstone bridge on the Columbus- Absarokee highway when they encountered a truck loaded with baled hay and driven by Bill Cosgrove, a Flaherty Flat rancher. In attempting to pass, the Harris machine struck the baled hay, projecting from the side of the truck, swung over and went into the ditch. The car did not turn over and it is believed Mr. Weidman either jumped from the machine or was thrown out by the impact.
A flying piece of glass from a broken car window severed an artery in his throat and, although he regained his feet without aid, believing that he was unhurt, others present quickly ascertained the extent of his injuries and he was immediately rushed to a hospital at Columbus by C. J. Spalding, Stillwater county agent, who was driving directly behind the Harris machine. He succumbed there at 6:45 a. m. Wednesday.
Other participants in the car crash escaped serious injuries.
Mr. Weidman was a native of Missouri, where he was born April 4, 1872. He had operated a ranch one mile east of Roberts for the past 28 years. He was a member of the Lutheran church at Manchester, Mo. Besides the widow, and son, Kenneth, other immediate survivors include six daughters and another son, William, Jr., of Roberts. The daughters are Violet, Viola and Jane Weidman, all of Roberts, and Mrs. Jewell Street, Mrs. Helen Rissler and Mrs. Nellie Dodge, all of Casper, Wyo.
Mr. Weidman also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary Schumacher and Miss Adelia Weidman and two brothers, George and Henry Weidman. All reside at St. Louis, Mo.

Bill Weidman Critically Hurt In Fall Down Elevator Shaft
William (Bill) Weidman, an employe of the Tucker Distributing company, sustained severe injuries Friday afternoon in a fall down the service elevator shaft at the Park hotel.
He was rushed to the Park hospital, where attendants reported this afternoon that his condition remained critical. They reported he sustained a compound skull fracture, the most serious at the base of the skull, and is suffering from shock. No X-rays had been taken late this afternoon.
Weidman was delivering beer to the Park hotel lounge at the time the accident occurred. When he entered the hotel to open a door leading to the storage room he noticed the door to the elevator shaft was open and apparently the cage was at the first-floor level. However, the elevator was being used by an employee of the laundry making deliveries to the second floor of the hotel. Hotel employes reported the safety door had not been closed.
Weidman stepped into the open shaft and plunged headlong to the concrete floor of the basement, nine feet and two inches below.
When Weidman failed to return to the truck, a fellow employe, Ray McGaugh, entered the hotel to investigate. He reported he found Weidman in a dazed condition on the basement floor.
Weidman, he said, had apparently crawled on his hands and knees from the elevator shaft.
Weidman was rushed to the hospital where the seriousness of his injuries was ascertained.
Members of his family said today that in addition to the critical skull fractures Weidman also sustained an arm injury. They said his right arm appears to be paralyzed.

Damage Suit Filed in Court Here
Gertrude Weidman Asks $34,000 in Action Against Loren Hays

Damages in the amount of $34,000 as the result of the death of her husband. William Frederick Weidman, are asked by Gertrude Weidman in a suit filed this morning in district court here against Loren H. Hays, lessee of the Park hotel.
The complaint was filed by Sherman Smith of Helena, attorney for the plaintiff.
Weidman died in the Park hospital here last Nov. 18, eight days after sustaining injuries in a fall down an elevator shaft at the local hotel.
Mrs. Weidman, as administrator of her husband's estate, claims in the complaint that the fatal injuries resulted from 'careless, reckless and negligent acts of the defendant."
The complaint states that on Nov. 10, 1950, while delivering beer to the hotel lounge. Weidman fell down the elevator shaft, dropping approximately 12 feet and sustaining fractures of the skull and a large laceration on the head.
"As a result of the fall and as a direct and proximate result of careless, reckless and negligent acts of the defendant," the complaint reads, "he (Weidman) died Nov. 18, 1950."
The plaintiff claims the wooden gate or barricade used in connection with the elevator was in a mechanically defective condition and that the defendant knew, or should have known, it was defective. It is further alleged that the defendant did not warn Weidman that the elevator was not at the ground floor, but permitted him to step through space, and that the defendant failed to provide proper lights, or any lights, in the vicinity of the elevator shaft.
In addition to damages totaling $34,000, the plaintiff asks costs and disbursements of the action.

Ladonia Wells was the daughter of Lindsay Wells and Mary Simmons.2 Ellen Dorcas Harn Manuscript. Ladonia Wells married Allen Farguhar D. Harn Jr., son of Dr. Allen Duval Harn and Josephine Camp, on 24 March 1897 at Colorado City, Mitchell Co., Texas. Ladonia Wells died in February 1919.3 Following obituary for Ladonia Wells Harn, in Weimar Mercury Newspaper, February 14, 1919, page 1 :

After an illness of two weeks from double pneumonia, Mrs. Donia Wills Harn, eldest daughter of Mrs. M. A. Wills of this city and wife of Mr. A. H. Harn of Grand Saline, Texas, passed away Thursday of last week, and the remains were brought here for interment last Friday afternoon in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery. Many sympathizing friends met the remains at the deport and attended the funeral. Rev. G. T. Hester, local Methodist pastor, officiated at the grave, and preached a most touching burial service. "Miss Donia", as she was familiarly known to our people, lived here up to the time of her marriage to Mr. Harn, and was at one time one of the teacher of the Weimar High School. A sweet, lovable girl, possessed of a most gentle, lovable disposition, our people learned to love her very dearly. As a wife she was kind, loving and thoughtful; as a daughter, she was all that a mother could desire, and only the mother and the Savior above know the many loving ministrations she ever showered upon the grey-haried mother at home. She was an ideal wife, an ideal daughter, and one whose friendship was indeed to be prized. To the deeply bereaved husband, mother and family our heartfelt sympathy is extended.
Burial: Weimar Masonic Cemetery, Weimar, Colorado County, Texas, USA.2 She died in February 1919 at Weimar, Colorado Co., Texas.2 She was buried in February 1919 at Weimar Masonic Cemetery, Weimar, Colorado Co., Texas.3,2
