John Franklin Fellows was born circa 1873 at Nebraska info from 1880 Nebraska Census. He married Maud Nina Hatten, daughter of Jerome Hatten and Mary Ellen Harvey, on 1 January 1896 at Missouri.1,3 Between 1906 and 1937 John Franklin Fellows was a rural mail carrier.3

JOHN F. FELLOWS FAMILY
"John F. Fellows was born September 8, 1872 on the claim staked by his father and mother, Albert and Margaret (Haines) Fellows six miles west of the city of Kearney. The family came by train between May 1871 and September 1872. Family tradition records John as being the first white child born in Buffalo County. He grew up with a family of eight boys and three girls. They helped their neighbors with farming and blacksmithing. During this time Albert worked on the railroad and was a deputy for the Buffalo County Sheriff David "Cap" Anderson. Mr. Anderson was away from his office much of the time riding his horse around the county.
John met his bride, Maud N. Hatten, in Odessa Township in Section 2 where her family had homesteaded a tree claim in 1878, coming from Pennsylvania. He courted his bride to be in a horse and buggy during the winter of 1895 and persuaded her to travel to Cass County, Missouri, to open a new business. This she did and they were married In Missouri on January 1, 1896. During the first year the business failed and they returned to the Amherst area bringing with them a baby girl named Lucy Mae, born October 27, 1896. The children born at Amherst were Walter Reuben in 1898, Hazel Vera in 1900, Paul Eugene in 1902, Ada Opal in 1904, Boyd in 1907, died in 1917, Rachel Wauneta born in 1910, died in 1923 and the twins, Jerome Albert and John Franklin in 1912.
In 1906 John started as a rural mail carrier and continued until his retirement in 1937. He passed away March 15, 1941. Maud died in 1961. They are buried in the Riverdale cemetery.
Lucy, the first child, married Edward Burkey in 1914. Their children were Elaine born in 1915 married Chester Cochran; Rueben born 1919 married Elaine Claiborn; Roy born 1920 married Thelma Johnson; Edward, Jr. born in 1922, lived in Arkansas; Joe Arthur born in 1923 married Norma Wood; Harold F. born in 1927 married Charlotte Woolstrum; John W. born in 1929 lived in Missouri; Lois born in 1934 married Marvion Reichert; Sherman born in 1938 married Sandra Alderman; Elmer born in 1917, died in 1919; twins, a boy and a girl born and died in 1925; Lyman born in 1932, died in 1934. Elaine and Rueben attended Amherst High School. Elaine remembers riding horseback or walking the eight miles to high school. She graduated from the Amherst High School in 1934.
Walter, the second child, married Emalou Erazim of Hazard in 1928. Walter was a farmer and worked on the railroad.
The third child, Hazel, was born in 1901 and married Edwin Bunn in 1919. Their children were Edwin, Jr., Vera, Clyde and Orville.
The fourth child born to John and Maud was Paul, who married Annie Pearl DeLaet in 1926. They had five children: Harvey, Dale, Pauline, Roberta and Darrell.
Ada, the fifth child, was born in 1904 and married Roy Dobbins in 1923. A son, Walter, died in 1927. Ada married Luther Wiggins in 1927, one son, Melvin, was born to this union. There were two stepchildren, Paul and Marie Wiggins.
The sixth child, Boyd, was born in 1907, died in 1917.
The seventh child, Rachel Wauneta, was born in 1909 and died in 1923. Both Boyd and Rachel Wauneta are buried in the Riverdale Cemetery.
The twins, Jerome and John, Jr., were born in 1912. Jerome married Alice M. Owen. They had three children. Lived in Medford, Oregon. John, Jr. married Ann Noble, the daughter of Margaret (Tinsman) and William Ira Noble. They had six children. John and Ann moved to Medford, Oregon in 1941."
