Physician Of Girl Thinks She Has A Chance To Recover- Father Was Killed Five Years Ago.

As a result of general neuritis, Miss Mary Harn, 17 years old, daughter of Mrs. Sallie Harn, 105 East Gittings street, South Baltimore, lapsed Into a comatose state and remained unconscious from Thursday night until last Saturday morning. Now at times she is rational, but again loses consciousness.
Miss Harn has been ill for six months, suffering from nervous troubles, superinduced by complications. Some time ago she was taken to Mercy Hospital, where she remained five weeks. She was discharged as cured. Soon after reaching home she became sick with tonsilitis, when her former illness returned.
While she is still in a serious condition, Dr. H. H. Hayden, 1425 Light street, her physician, says she has a chance to recover. Dr. Hayden declares that it is not unusual for a person suffering with general neuritis to go into a trance for an even longer period than that experienced by Miss Harn.
Mrs. Harn said that Thursday night her daughter was restless and uncomfortable.
"Sleep was impossible," said the mother, "and Mary appeared out of her mind. About 4 o'clock she lapsed into unconsciousness. At first we thought she had exhausted her energies and was only sleeping. When she failed to wake about midday Friday we became alarmed and tried to arouse her. All efforts were vain. We sent for Dr. Hayden, who assured us that she would soon awaken. At our earnest solicitation mild stimulants were applied but without effect."
Mrs. Harn added that her daughter had enjoyed good health until the first of September, when her nerves became affected.
The girl's father was killed about five years ago by an elevator in the Equitable Building. He was working on the restoration of the building after the fire, and had about completed his work. Before leaving for home one evening he pressed the button for an elevator to descend. It dropped noiselessly and struck him on the head as he leaned forward, killing him instantly.

Miss Mary Harn, 17 years old, daughter of Mrs. Sallie A. Harn, 105 Gittings street, who was in a supposed trance from Thursday night until Saturday morning of last week as a result of nervous trouble, died early yesterday morning, after being in ill health for six months. She was affected with nervous trouble last September and was taken to Mercy Hospital, from which she was discharged as cured. Soon after returning home, however, she had a relapse, which brought about a comatose condition and culminated in her death. She is survived by her mother, a brother, Mr. D. Lee Harn, and a sister. Miss Margaret Harn.

Another pioneer resident of Appanoose county admits that existence in the early days was rather strenuous, but she can look back and find much of pleasure in the early days. Mrs. P. D. Pence, of Moravia, contributes the following:
I am one of Appanoose county pioneers and am glad of it. I was born in Green county, Pennsylvania, the year of 1852, came to Iowa, Appanoose county, with my parents in the fall of 1856. Took the boat at Brownsville, on the Mongahala River floated down into the Ohio, then the Mississippi, landed at Keokuk, Iowa. We were met there with team and came across the country to five miles east of Moravia at a cousin of mine, Charley Hughes, who lived in a little log cabin. The woods around were great. We were there some time. Father and Charley had to have a hunt, woods full of wild game, soon had a deer and other game.
Later on we moved in to Moravia. Not much of a town, some little log houses here and there. As a little girl I used to stand at the window and watch the tumble weeds roll across the prairie, sometimes would come one, two, three, and then a bunch go on for miles. There were no fences to catch them.
Winters were cold. Father soon went to his trade making boots and shoes. There was a great demand for them. He soon had to hire help. Mother would bind the shoes by hand. A few years later, father went to selling goods and that got to be a good business. Our goods were hauled from Ottumwa. Those days the people were busy trying to get the people clothed. Women were busy at the spinning wheel and knitting, they were not invited out to tea and clubs as they are nowadays. We were invited … to wool pickings and sewing … to make clothing for the needy children, while the mother … the cloth. They were happy … though. Mother's health … very good … homes … back east … a hir… the ….

     Mary Wharton Harn was born on 18 July 1898 at Greene Co., Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Carroll Duval Harn and Mary Whorton Cole. Mary Wharton Harn lived in 1920 at Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Alabama. She died on 31 July 1981 at age 83. She was buried at Cullman City Cemetery, Cullman, Cullman Co., Alabama.²

     Maryann Delores Harn was born on 14 September 1960 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California.² She was the daughter of Kenneth Eugene Harn and Blanca Esther Oviedo. Maryann Delores Harn married William Knightlinger in 1980 at San Pedro, Los Angeles Co., California.^3,4 Maryann Delores Harn died on 7 February 1982 at Carson City, Nevada, at age 21.^3,4 Maryann Dolores was seven months pregnant when she died. The cause of death was shot in the head and died almost instantly. She was buried on 12 February 1982 at Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood, Los Angeles Co., California.^4,5

     Mathias Harn was born before 1770 at Carroll Co., Maryland.^1,2 He was the son of John Hearn and Dorcas Davis. Mathias Harn married Amelia Shipley on 6 July 1798 at Frederick Co., Maryland.

     Matthew Harn is the son of Paul David Harn and Maricella Sanchez.¹

     Maxine Genevieve Harn was born on 14 June 1914 at Beardstown, Cass Co., Illinois.¹ She was the daughter of John Thomas Harn and Wilma Demy. Maxine Genevieve Harn died on 21 May 1981 at Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at age 66.¹ She was buried at Beardstown City Cemetery, Beardstown, Cass Co., Illinois.¹

     May Blanche Harn was born in 1875 at Pennsylvania estimated birth date from 1880 Census. She was the daughter of Thornton Fleming Harn and Margaret Esther Molter. May Blanche Harn was born on 18 April 1875 at West Bridgewater, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania. She married William J. McMasters on 7 May 1901 at West Bridgewater, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania. May Blanche Harn died on 31 December 1943 at New Brighton, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania. She was buried at Beaver Cemetery and Mausoleum, Beaver, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania.¹

     Melvin Harn was born on 28 November 1861.¹ He was the son of Perry O. Harn and Mary Tuite. Melvin Harn died on 19 March 1865 at age 3.¹

     Melvin Gerald Harn was born on 2 June 1907 at Baltimore, Maryland.¹ He married Edna May Gerhard. Melvin Gerald Harn was the son of Dalton Ernen Harn and Clara Jane Scheller. Melvin was married, but had no children. Melvin Gerald Harn died on 25 April 1985 at Baltimore, Maryland, at age 77.¹ He was buried at Taylorsville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Taylorsville, Carroll Co., Maryland.²

     Melvin Levi Harn was born on 2 November 1922 at Frederick, Schuyler Co., Illinois.² He was the son of Elmer Levi Harn and Myrtle Barbara Rohn. Melvin Levi Harn was born circa 1923 at Illinois. Need additional research to see if Melvin L. Harn buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Texas, is the person that had lived in Illinois.³ He died on 21 August 1992 at San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, at age 69.² He was buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas.²

     Michael Harn is the son of Wilbur Carmichael Harn and Dorothy A. Rinehart.

     Michael David Harn is the son of Steven Michael Harn and Barbara Welling.¹
