Cherrie Ellen Perkins was born on 11 May 1917 at Brewster, Okanogan Co., Washington.1,2 She was the daughter of Albra Jonathan Perkins and Cecil Gladys Myers. Cherrie Ellen Perkins married Arthur Jefferson Lane on 29 November 1935 at Waterville, Douglas Co., Washington. Cherrie Lane
1917 - 2013
Our dear mother, Cherrie Ellen (Perkins) Lane, passed away on October 11, 2013, at the age of 96. Our much loved father, Arthur Jefferson Lane, passed away on January 21, 2004. They both were surrounded by their family, who loved them beyond words. Cherrie was born in 1917, in Brewster, WA to Albra and Cecil Perkins. Mom spent all of her school years in Brewster and graduated in 1935, the same year she met and married the love of her life, Arthur Lane. In 1937, they started their family of five children; Sharon Lois Lane Laurie (Harold) of Leavenworth, Althea Elva Lane Noel (John) of Enumclaw, WA, Arthur Jay Lane (Lorna) of Cashmere, Peggy JoAnn Lane Scott (Elzie) of Sleepy Hollow, and Nancy Marie Lane Clark of Mission Viejo, CA. During World War II, dad was sent to work at the shipyards, so we went to Snohomish, WA to live. After the War, we went to Coulee Dam, while dad worked on Grand Coulee Dam. Mom was happy to go anywhere, as long as we were together. Mom always worked so hard, keeping a big garden and canning every year, at least 1000 quarts of food for the winter. She also worked in the apple sheds every fall to make extra money for Christmas. Mom was also a great seamstress; she could sew anything, including my wedding dress. Mom could never go to sleep until all her kids were home, so we knew to be home on time. She always helped us out with our homework; she would have been a great math teacher. She loved our history books as well, and she would often sit down and read them like a novel. Dad fell and hurt his back when he was Superintendent of the state-run Honor Camp at Loomis, WA. That was when he took his retirement. They spent every winter in Mexico or Yuma, AZ. They kept in touch with old friends and family and made a lot of new friends. They were big into square dancing and looking for Arizona jade. Dad taught a class in "Old Town Yuma" on making jewelry. Mom always had a talent for art and she became a beautiful oil painter, painting pictures for all of us. Mom just loved to paint. They were always busy, going here and there, and always having fun! That is one of the things we remember them saying, "If you go somewhere and don't have a good time, it's your own fault!" We are so proud that they were our parents. We love them and miss them. It's a hurt that never goes away. They were married for 68 years. Mom kept dad's ashes close to her for ten years, so when she died, they could be placed and buried together.
They had 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. They were preceded in death by their awesome grandson, Dusty Lane; and their son-in-law, George Clark.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014, at the Brewster Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., followed by a get together at Abby's Pizza on Western Avenue in Wenatchee from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ask for the "party room".
