On June 10, 1919, in South Bend, as Pearl Rupel, she married W. Kingsley Abernethy, who died in July of 1928. On April 19, 1942, in Lafayette, Ind., she married Clifford G Dunphy, who died in May of 1977. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles K. Abernethy; a sister, Alice R Gammons; and by a grandson, David K Abernethy.
She is survived by a son, James R. (Marilyn) Abernethy of Bothell, Wash; a sister-in-law, Martha Abernethy of South Bend; a step-son, James M. (Janice) Dunphy of Westerville, Ohio; six grandchildren. Spike (Ann) Abernethy of South Bend, Tom (Susan) Abernethy of Carmel, Ind., J. Steven and Scott (Evelyn) Abernethy, both of Kennewick, Wash., Daniel (Judy) Abernethy of Seattle, Wash., and Brett Abernethy of Bothell; and by 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Donphy was employed as a buyer at the former Ellsworth Department Store in South Bend She was a graduate of Maryland College for Women and a member of First United Methodist Church and Kappa Alpha Theta Social Sorority.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a m. on Monday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 No. William Street, with Dr. Ellwood K. Smith of First United Methodist Church officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home. Cremation will take place with private family graveside services in Bowman Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main Street, South Bend, IN 16601, or to Hospice of St. Joseph County. 111 Sunnyside Court, I South Bend, IN 46637.

Rachel Rupel was also known as Ruple. She was born on 1 May 1836 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. She was the daughter of Jacob Rupel and Catherine Griffith. Rachel Rupel married Calvin Davis Harn, son of Elisha Lemuel Harn and Keziah Griswell, on 25 October 1856 at Niles, Berrien Co., Michigan.1,2 Rachel Rupel was a Keeping-house. She and Calvin Davis Harn were divorced on 25 May 1887 at Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, Grounds listed were cruelty.3 The 1900 Census has Rachel born Mar 1836, and married 44-years. Rachel Harn died on 9 January 1906 at Shieldsville, Rice Co., Minnesota, at age 69.4,5 Death Record lists name as "Rachel Ruple Harn", divorced. She was buried circa 1906 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Faribault, Rice Co., Minnesota.6 The cause of death was Neuralgia of Heart. In Harn Family Bible, Rachel's lastname listed as Rupel. Grave lists Rachel Rupel Harn 1836-1906. Death Record has parents as Jacob Ruple and C. Griffith of PA.

Mrs. Harn was born in Indiana 69 years ago; came to St. Anthony in the year 1856 and removed to Faribault in 1868, where she has lived either in the city or vicinity ever since. Part of this time has been spent a few miles north of Faribault at Cedar Lake.
Mrs. Harn leaves three sons, Oscar C. Harn, of this city and with whom she made her home; Herbert Harn, of Mason City, Iowa, and Harry Harn, of Salt Lake City. Three daughters, Mrs. John Sells, of Syanid, N. D; Jessie Harn, of Cedar Lake; Mary Harn, Denver, and Margaritta Harn, of Minneapolis. Besides her children she leaves a sister, Mrs. Andrew Longley, of South Bend, Ind.
Mrs. Harn was a woman of exceptional character and was loved and respected by all who knew her and her many friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
