John Henry Detwiler, Jr., age 86, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on January 15, 2014, at his home in Hoquiam. Mr. Detwiler was born on June 13, 1927, in Seattle, Washington to John Henry and Helen Alberta (Houser) Detwiler. He was raised in the San Juan Islands of Washington State.

He served in the Merchant Marines from 1941 – 1945 and in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1954. Upon his discharge, he came to the Harbor where he had worked as a shingle sawyer for most of his life, but his custom rod business (Seahawk Custom Rods) was his trade.

He was an avid fisherman, sports enthusiast, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His faith and his family were his greatest loves.

Surviving relatives include his children and their spouses, Timothy and Ruth Detwiler, Kari and Ed Hansen, Jodi Mathis, Traci and Alex Whitbeck and Nikki and David Stromire; brothers and spouse, David and Carol Detwiler, Harry Detwiler and Ted Detwiler; sisters, Barb Weaver, Gretchen Monteath and Doreta Gamilles; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife Evelyn Clara Detwiler; brothers, Donald Dean Detwiler and Larry Detwiler and his sister, Joyce Detwiler.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Light and Life Community Church, 2740 Simpson Avenue in Hoquiam, with Pastor Brad Gill officiating. An urn committal service with military honors will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

     Nikki Dianne Detwiler is the daughter of John Henry Detwiler Jr. and Evelyn Claira Black. Nikki Dianne Detwiler married David Jonathan Stromire on 7 July 1990.¹

     Timothy A. Detwiler is the son of John Henry Detwiler Jr. and Evelyn Claira Black.¹ Timothy A. Detwiler married Ruth Ann King on 4 April 2001 at Washington.

     Traci Shannon Detwiler is the daughter of John Henry Detwiler Jr. and Evelyn Claira Black.¹ Traci Shannon Detwiler married Alex Whitbeck on 8 August 1992 at Washoe Co., Nevada.¹

     Wayne Allen Detwiler was born in 1952 at Washington. He was the son of Donald Dean Detwiler and Donna Lee Houser. Wayne Allen Detwiler died on 12 May 1957 at Seattle, King Co., Washington.

     Zachery Levi Detwiler is the son of Gordon P. Mathis and Jodi Detwiler.¹

     Margaret Cornelia Deutsch was born on 11 October 1914 at Minnesota. She married Theodore F. Worm, son of Hubert Worm and Gertrude Boeckman, on 25 April 1934.¹ Margaret Cornelia Deutsch died on 16 April 1962 at Hennepin Co., Minnesota, at age 47.

He married Dona Marie Stetzel on 1 July 1983 at The Happy Church, Denver Co., Colorado. Joseph Nathan Dickerson lived in 2004 at Colorado. He died on 9 May 2021 at Aurora, Colorado, at age 67. He was cremated.

     Ransom Dickerson was born on 13 December 1911 at Lexington, Henderson Co., Tennessee.¹ He married Mary Francis Westbrooks. Ransom Dickerson died on 12 October 2005 at age 93. He was buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Denver Co., Colorado.¹

     Carol Dickson is the daughter of Wilson Carnahan Dickson Jr. and Virginia Rose Braun. Carol Dickson married John Edwin Harn II, son of Edwin Willard Harn and Dorothy Elaine Henry, on 10 July 1965 at Winchester, Virginia. Carol Dickson and John Edwin Harn II were divorced on 30 June 1978 at Virginia.

     Douglas Fredrick Diedrichsen was born on 21 February 1934 at Knox Co., Nebraska.² He married Betty Jean Rissler, daughter of Wesley Homer Rissler and Helen Dorothy Weidman, in 1958.¹ Douglas Fredrick Diedrichsen died on 14 May 2017 at Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska, at age 83.² He was buried at Omaha National Cemetery, Sarpy Co., Nebraska.²
