Michael Collins, 54, of Lugoff, SC, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 after suffering from a stroke. He was born November 18, 1960 in Elyria, OH where he resided until the age of 23. Mike graduated from Elyria High School in 1979 and then from the Virginia Beach Police Academy in 1986. He served 12 years as a Police Officer in Virginia Beach before retiring in 1998. Mike loved all sports. In high school he lettered in baseball (pitcher), basketball and football (quarterback). His favorite was baseball, beginning with t-ball and playing through his years with the Virginia Beach FOP. Later, his interests turned to Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also had a lifelong love of music. Mike had many friends and had a knack (and memory) for telling stories. He never met a stranger.
Mike is survived by his mother Barbara Collins of Lugoff, SC; grandmother Ellen Bukowski of Lugoff, SC; sister, Michele (David) Kleckner, of Chapel Hill, NC; nephew Joshua Kleckner of Denver, CO; niece Sarah Kleckner of Chapel Hill, NC; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his father Clayton Collins.
There will be no public services. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Palmetto Health Richland, particularly to those on the Hospice floor for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Walter Crowe Animal Shelter, Camden, SC in memory of Mike or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, SC.

The former Lillian Compton, she was born May 8, 1876, in Fremont Township, Winona County, to Richard A. and Harriet Arnold Compton. Her parents were pioneers, having come to Winona County in Nov. 14, 1855, in a covered wagon. They farmed in Fremont Township until moving to Winona in 1883.
She graduated from Winona Senior High School and was married to Fred O. Perkins, Oct. 26, 1898.
She was a member of Central Methodist Church, Winona Chapter of DAR and Winona County Old Settlers Association.
Surviving are: A niece, Miss Harriet Hall, Detroit, Mich., and several other nieces and nephews. Her husband died in 1932. Her parents and eight brothers and sisters also have died.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by Fawcett Funeral Home.
