Background Information:
Pine Forest Engagement
On May 19, 1864, during the Civil War, Confederate forces under Ewell’s Corps attacked Union lines at Harris’s Farm, near Mrs. Allsop’s Pine Forest during the Battle of Spotsylvania (Virginia) Court House. The attack aimed to disrupt Grant's army but was repulsed with heavy losses, leaving many dead in the dense pine forest.
Battle of Cold Harbor
The 8th New York Heavy Artillery-including Company A-was not only present but heavily involved in the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 3, 1864. Acting as infantry, the regiment suffered 505 casualties (80 killed, 339 wounded, 86 missing) in a devastating charge, which is recognized as one of the highest losses for a single regiment in a single engagement during the entire war.
The Battle of Cold Harbor was fought during the American Civil War near Mechanicsville, Virginia, from May 31 to June 12, 1864, with the most significant fighting occurring on June 3.
Siege of Petersburg, Virginia
The 8th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment, which included Company A, was present and engaged in the Siege of Petersburg on June 16, 1864. The regiment was attached to the II Corps of the Army of the Potomac, actively participating in the assaults near Petersburg starting that day, with significant casualties reported during mid-June 1864.
Point Lookout
On May 22, 1864, Point Lookout in Maryland served as a major Union prisoner-of-war camp, housing thousands of captured Confederate soldiers amid notoriously harsh conditions. By mid-1864, it held over 50,000 prisoners, suffering from severe overcrowding, high mortality due to disease (malaria, typhoid), and poor sanitary conditions, with about 4,000 deaths total, often buried in mass graves.
Nov 22, 1864: General Robert E. Lee was under siege at Petersburg, Virginia, by the Army of the Potomac.
It is highly unlikely that Company A of the 8th New York Heavy Artillery was in pursuit of General Lee near Point Lookout on November 22, 1864. Based on historical records of the 8th NYHA, the regiment was heavily engaged in the Siege of Petersburg in Virginia during November 1864, fighting as infantry attached to the 2nd Division, 2nd Corps of the Army of the Potomac. Infatuated With a Grandmother.
London, Aug. 10.-A sensational case came before Squire J. B. Smyth to-day in the interim sessions room, when Viola Fellows, a married woman of 50 years, and Samuel Jeffrey, a young man of 20, appeared to answer the charge of conspiracy to injure Adin Felows, husband of the female prisoner, and also stealing a quantity of furniture. Adin Fellows lives in London West, and until recently his wife resided with him, the prisoner Jeffrey boarding with them. About two weeks ago Adin was locked up for being drunk, and on being released found his house closed, his wife, the two children, the boarder and the furniture having disappeared. A short search located young Jeffrey, Mrs. Fellows, the children and the belongings in a small house on the 13th concession of London. At the preliminary examination to-day it came out that the husband was kept supplied with beer by the pair, and that he was dosed with morphine pills when he was inclined to be troublesome. The drayman who moved Fellows' furniture gave testimony, and other witnesses showed that Jeffrey and Mrs. Fellows passed as brother and sister while they lived together. A most ludicrous love letter, supposed to have been written by the youth to Mrs. Fellows (who, by the way, is a grandmother) is among the documents in the case. Prisoners were committed for trial.

LONDON, Ont., August 11.-Samuel Jeffreys and Mrs. Viola Fellows, who eloped from London West a short time ago, were on Saturday committed for trial on the charge of stealing from Aden Fellows, the woman's husband, a lot of furniture that they carried away with them. The peculiar feature of the case is that Jeffreys is only 20 years of age, while the woman is fifty and a grandmother.

NEWS
In the case of Sam. Jeffrey and Mrs. Viola Fellows, charged with stealing furniture from Adin Fellows, Blackfriars street, London West, about the middle of July, no new facts were brought out, but several witnesses testified that the two passed as brother and sister, that the latter was much abused by her husband, who was a drunkard, and that she was going to leave him. Judge Elliot discharged Mrs. Fellows, on the ground that, being the wife of the complainant, she had a just claim to a portion of the household goods. Jeffrey was remanded till to- morrow, pending argument in his case.

Haines on 14 September 1865 at Pontiac, Livingston Co., Illinois.1 Albert A. Fellows died on 9 August 1907 at Amherst, Buffalo Co., Nebraska, at age 67.2 He was buried at Stanley Cemetery, Amherst, Buffalo Co., Nebraska.2 He began military service on 28 August 1861 at Company C, Thirty-ninth Illinois regiment, Illinois.1 He ended military service on 19 February 1865.1
Following from:
BIOGRAPHICAL SOUVENIR of the Counties of Buffalo, Kearney, and Phelps in Nebraska (published in 1890):
ALBERT FELLOWS is a prosperous farmer in Grant Township, and one of the first settlers of Buffalo County. He was born April 6, 1840, at Cambria, Niagara County, N. Y. His father, William L. Fellows, a wheelwright, was a native of Connecticut. His mother, Polly (Higby) Fellows, was a native of New York State, and was born in the year 1826. There were five children, four boys and one girl, in the paternal family, of which Albert is the third.
Albert resided at home the greater part of his time until twenty-one and was engaged in farming and attending the neighboring school. In 1861 he emigrated West and located at Pontiac, Livingston county, Ill., where soon after he responded to his country's call and enlisted August 28, 1861, in Company C, Thirty-ninth Illinois regiment. The first battle in which he participated was in the Shenandoah Valley, with Gen. Shields in command on the Union side and Gen. Jackson on the rebel side. The rebel forces were not only treated to a severe whipping but were routed and driven in hot haste down the valley. The next battle in which he took an active part was fought at Port Royal, after which his regiment was ordered to Harrison's landing and finally to South Carolina. He was through the siege of Ft. Wagner and participated next in the battle at Chapin's farm and a little later in the battle of Bermuda Hundred, at which he was captured May 16, 1864, and taken to Petersburgh, where he was confined for two weeks and then transferred to Andersonville prison, where he remained from June 1st to September 19th, and was then taken to Charleston, kept two weeks and finally taken one hundred miles north to what was known as the Florence stockade, where he remained until December 10th, and was paroled. Out of eleven men captured from his company at the same time and confined in Andersonville, only five lived to get out. There were thirty-five thousand prisoners confined in Andersonville at the time he was there, and the story of his experience and what he there witnessed is heart-rending in the extreme. After being paroled, he went to Annapolis, Md., received a thirty-day furlough, came home and returned again, shortly after which, February 19,1865, he was mustered out. Although in his three and one-half years of experience in the war, he was never wounded, he had his gun shot from his hands at one time and two bullet holes put through his clothes at another.
After being discharged he returned to Pontiac, Ill., and followed farming for four years, after which he moved to Tazewell county, Ill., where he farmed for two years, and in April, 1872, emigrated West and located in Buffalo county, Nebr. He took up a homestead six miles west of Kearney in Odessa Township. There were but few settlers in this section of the state at that time, and wild game, deer, antelope, elk, etc., were quite plentiful, and buffalo were not infrequently killed. There were many Indians along the Platte River and for the first two years proved very troublesome. One afternoon, when Mr. Fellows was away from home, and a neighbor woman was staying with Mrs. Fellows, a band of eighteen Indians stopped at the house and made threatening demands, whereupon the two women fired several loads from the barrels of a couple shot guns at them, and the Indians fled at full speed, hallooing, "brave squaws." In the grasshopper times, 1874-76, Mr. Fellows lost all his crops and was compelled to haul corn from Red Cloud, Kans., a distance of ninety miles. He finally sold his claim for $350 and later bought the claim on which he now resides in the Wood River valley. He was burned out at one time and had nothing left but his team, wagon and some household goods.
He was married, September 14, 1865, to Margaret Haines, who was born June 17, 1845, and is a native of Illinois. Their union has resulted in the birth of eleven children, as follows - Harriet E., August 10, 1867; William L., June 11, 1869; Emma J., May 9, 1871; John F., September 8, 1872; Alberta, July 7,1874; Francis M., July 22, 1876; Albert, June 24, 1878; Guy, August 24, 1880; Lee, January 28, 1883; Grace, April 17, 1885; Jessie, March 5, 1888. In political matters Mr. Fellows is a democrat.1

Emma Josephine Fellows was born on 9 May 1871 at Manunk, Tazewell Co., Illinois.1,2 She was the daughter of Albert A. Fellows and Margaret M. Haines. Emma Josephine Fellows was born circa 1872 at Illinois info from 1880 Nebraska Census. She married Earl P. Nokes on 21 November 1888 at Stanley, Buffalo Co., Nebraska. Emma Josephine Fellows died on 28 August 1931 at New Plymouth, Payette Co., Idaho, at age 60. She was buried at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth, Payette Co., Idaho.2
From an undated newspaper:
Emma Fellows was born in Taswell county, Illinois, May 9, 1871, and passed away at her home near Fruitland, August 28, 1931, at 2;16 p.m. at the age of 60 years, 3 months and 19 days. She had been in failing health for several years. She was taken to the Ontario hospital, 5 weeks before she was operated on for cancer of the stomach, but it was found nothing could be done. She remained in the hospital two weeks after her operation and then was brought to her home at her own wish. Everything was done for her that love and human hands could do, but the one Power above saw best to relieve her of her suffering and took her to live with him.
She was married to Earl F. Nokes November 21, 1888 at Kearney, Neb., where they lived until 1901, when they came to Fruitland and purchased their ranch two miles north east of town, where they have lived since. A beautiful home was built by Mr. Nokes for her a few years ago, and every modern convience added for her pleasure and comfort which she enjoyed to the fullest extent, in spite of her failing health.
Since girlhood Mrs. Nokes has been a Christian having a strong and sincere faith to the end. Many times during her illness she said, "I am ready to meet my Savior. Oh, why doesn't he come and take me." She suffered greatly, but through it all she was kind and patient, ready to go at any time. Having no children of her own, she mothered many motherless children and cared for them like her own, giving them love and sympathy, thus relieving much suffering and sorrow, by her tender care.
She was a kind and true friend and a good neighbor. Anyone in the community needing help she was ready and eager to help them. Many friends mourn her death, and she will long be remembered for the good she has done.
Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her aged mother, Mrs. Margaret Fellows; 6 brothers, Will, John, Frank, Lee, Jesse, and George, all of Amherst, Neb; and two sisters, Mrs. Bertle Browning and Mrs. Frank Nichols, both of Fruitland. (The Payette Independent, Thursday, September 03, 1931)Transcribed by C. Hanson and posted with permission.
Funeral services were held from Christian church in Payette, of which she was a member, Sunday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, conducted by Mrs. J. S. Beem. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, and silently spoke of the love and esteem in which she was held in the community. Interment was made in Park View cemetery in New Plymouth.

BABY AT REST
For the second time within the year, the death-angel has visited the G. E Fellows home, this time carrying away the soul of little Floyd Wayne, the youngest child, a boy of five summers.
Floyd Wayne Fellows, baby son of Mr. and Mrs. G E. Fellows, was born 6 miles southeast of Hardin on January 27th 1918 and died March 19th from pleuro pneumonia. Baby Floyd had been ill for the past two weeks but had been ailing ever since Christmas. The happy smile and sunny presence of the baby darling of the home will
be greatly missed by the parents and brothers and sisters; when one recalls that medical treatment and loving care were unavailing to save the little one and after everything was done that loving hearts could accomplish, it is realized that it was the will of God for the little one to be taken to the heavenly home and he passed
away about five o'clock Monday morning, March 19th, 1923. He was the youngest of the ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. G. E. (Burt) Fellows, all of whom survive except Samuel Wesley who was accidentally killed last summer in a railroad accident near Hardin. The little one leaves to mourn his untimely loss besides his heart
broken parents, four sisters, Mrs. A. H. Merry of Centralia, Mo., Mrs. J. R Redman of Watseka. III., Mrs. G. A. McCulley of Kansas City, Kans., and Miss Garnet Fellows of Hardin; and four brothers, Geo. C., Walter, James and LeRoy, all of Hardin.
Friends and neighbors gathered at the family home Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock where the funeral service was conducted by Rev. H. N. Blakeway, pastor of the Hardin Congregational Community Church.
Interment was made in the Hardin cemetery.
