Thomas E. Hollingsworth, who lives at 404 Eight Avenue, Brooklyn, is the first New Yorker to join the National Army of the United States. Mr. Hollingsworth appeared before Board 145 at the City College last night. He passed the physical examination with flying colors, and as he came out of the examining room quietly remarked to the members of the board: "Sign me up. I do not claim exemption." And then Mr. Hollingsworth without waiting to receive the congratulations of the members of the board, of which Dr. Charles H. Tuttle of the City College Faculty is the Chairman, walked out of the building and started for his home in Brooklyn.

MULVANE-Long, Vera Lou 86, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016. She was born April 30, 1929 in West Plain, MO to Virgil and Minnie (Thompson) Holt. While living in Coffeyville, KS, Vera owned Long's Flower Shop and Long's Creations and was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was the Sunday School Director and Choir Leader. Vera became a member of the First Baptist Church of Mulvane after moving to the area 5 years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wayne Long in 2006. Vera is survived by her daughters, Janie (Dave) Spear, Joy (Bart) Turner, and Janet (Frank) Rodriguez; grandchildren, Eric (Dori) Turner, Kerrie (Travis) Wike, Jill Turner, Jonathan Spear, Leah (Curtis) Looper, Joshua Rodriguez, Trong Turner, Hannah Rodriguez, and Olivia Turner; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford Leon Holt; and several nieces and nephews.
