Barbara passed away peacefully in Concord, with her Daughters and a Granddaughter at her side. Barbara (daughter of R.W. Johnson and Laura Brewer Johnson) was born and grew up in Northern California. She went to Mt. Diablo High School and in 1947 graduated UC Berkeley. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and the Berkeley Hiking Club. She Married William E. Smith of San Francisco in 1952, settled in Concord, raising a family (Stuart, Susan, Stacy and Shannon),five grand children and six great grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and was a lifetime member of the Sierra Club, founding member and 3rd president (1976) of the Mount Diablo Interpretive Association. She was a member of Save Mt. Diablo and Audubon Society. She backpacked and hiked the Yosemite backcountry, Pacific Crest Trail and most every state/national park on the west coast. She was an active member of the Concord Genealogy Society, Daughter's of the American Revolution and Mayflower Society. She loved music, opera, ballet and the symphony; played piano, recorder, autoharp, and dulcimer.
She would want us to remember her for her love of nature and support of open space.
Barbara will be returned to the elements in her favorite place on earth, the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada above Yosemite.

Johnson was born on 29 November 1887 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota.² He married Marjorie Maude Perkins, daughter of Marshall Timothy Perkins and Anna Rolfe Purdy, on 23 July 1913 at Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota. Clarence G. Johnson died on 15 December 1950 at St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota, at age 63.² He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing, Goodhue Co., Minnesota.^3,4

Clarence G. Johnson, 63, former Red Wing resident who since leaving here had resided in St. Paul, died at a St. Paul hospital this morning. Mr. Johnson was born in Red Wing November 29, 1887, and attended grade and high schools here. He left the city about 30 years ago and since had resided in St. Paul at 1521 Grand avenue. He was engaged as a salesman for the United States Roofing company for many years. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John C. Johnson of Red Wing.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie of St. Paul; one son, Donald W. Johnson, Red Wing; two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Clara Anderson of Zumbrota. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Fred W. Johnston funeral home at 334 No. Snelling avenue, St. Paul. Committal services will be conducted at Oakwood cemetery chapel in Red Wing at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
