JOHN F. FELLOWS FAMILY
"John F. Fellows was born September 8, 1872 on the claim staked by his father and mother, Albert and Margaret (Haines) Fellows six miles west of the city of Kearney. The family came by train between May 1871 and September 1872. Family tradition records John as being the first white child born in Buffalo County. He grew up with a family of eight boys and three girls. They helped their neighbors with farming and blacksmithing. During this time Albert worked on the railroad and was a deputy for the Buffalo County Sheriff David "Cap" Anderson. Mr. Anderson was away from his office much of the time riding his horse around the county.

John met his bride, Maud N. Hatten, in Odessa Township in Section 2 where her family had homesteaded a tree claim in 1878, coming from Pennsylvania. He courted his bride to be in a horse and buggy during the winter of 1895 and persuaded her to travel to Cass County, Missouri, to open a new business. This she did and they were married In Missouri on January 1, 1896. During the first year the business failed and they returned to the Amherst area bringing with them a baby girl named Lucy Mae, born October 27, 1896. Following is the obituary for Opal McCulley:

Opal McCulley

YAKIMA - Opal McCulley, 106, died Oct. 2, 2011 at Summitview Healthcare in Yakima. She was born June 24, 1905, to Minnie and George Fellows in Pleasanton, NE. She retired from Sears in 1970. Opal loved the Mariners and crocheting for her family. Those beautiful gifts will keep her memory alive for generations to come. Her sense of adventure included a hot air balloon ride over Spokane on her 90th birthday and riding a 2-man ROTAX over Lake Chelan on her 91st. The pilot was so impressed he wrote an article about her for Ultraflight Magazine. She lived in many cities but Hardin, MT; Arco, ID; and Prosser, WA, had a special place in her heart. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Petty of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Helen Boozer of Pasco, WA, Margie (Bud) Burke of Yuma, AZ, Mary Jane Walker of Prosser, WA, and Wanda Roth of Union Gap, WA, and numerous grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband George and son Bob. At her request the only service will be a "family get together like the ones on my birthday." Her ashes will be placed in her family plot in Hardin, MT. The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Summitview Healthcare Center.4 She was buried at Zillah Cemetery, Zillah, Yakima Co., Washington.2

Granddaughter of Adin Fellows
Grandmother of Jody Ann Redman
Ruby Redman in March 1977 while in Minnesota
Ruby Redman
Ruby Fellows was born on 27 January 1903 at Purdum, Blaine Co., Nebraska.2 She was the daughter of George Elbert Fellows and Minnie Inez Lilly. Ruby Fellows married James Roby Redman, son of John William Redman and Della Regina Kerr, on 3 July 1922 at Hardin, Big Horn Co., Montana; The Marriage License and Marriage Certificate number 654, were both dated 3 July 1922. The marriage listed as being between Roby Redman of Hardin, Montana, aged 23 years, 2 months, 3 days, born at Adams Co., Ohio, son of John Redman and Della Kerr and Ruby Fellows of Hardin, Montana, aged 19 years, 5 months, 6 days, born at Cherry Co., Nebraska, daughter of George Fellows and Minnie Lilly. The wedding was performed by a Methodist Minister and witnessed by Helen Wort and S.W. Fellows.1

Following from Ruby Redman in 1973:
"My mother's people were Samuel W. Lilly. Married to Mary Jane Haigg. Had 8 children: Minnie, Arod, Amy, Walen (Bud), Viola, Zella and Jessie.
"As of March 1973, there are deaths of dad, mom, Sam, Garnet, Floyd and George."3 Ruby Fellows lived at 1202 N. Michigan St., Caldwell, Canyon Co., Idaho; lived at this address from 1960's till about 1999. She lived in December 2000 at 1404 Falls Ave., E., Twin Falls, Twin Falls Co., Idaho. She died on 27 May 2001 at Birchwood Retirement Home, Twin Falls, Twin Falls Co., Idaho, at age 98.

Following from an obituary for Ruby Redman in the Idaho Press-Tribune newspaper, dated 30 May 2001:

Rudy Redman, 98 of Caldwell, passed away May 27, 2001, at the beautiful Birchwood Retirement Home in Twin Falls, where she resided for the past year. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.

Ruby was born Jan. 27, 1903, in Purdom (sic), Neb., a daughter of George and Minnie Fellows. She married James R. Redman on July 3, 1921, in Hardin, Mont., and they later moved to Watseka, Ill., where Mr. Redman was employed. They later moved to Scottsbluff, Neb., and in 1934, moved to Caldwell where they made their home. Ruby was very active in the community. During WWII, she was on the ration board, on the election board from 1940 until 1980, was very active in Van Buren School and worked at Crookham Seed Co.

She loved to take her grandchildren fishing and hunting. If a book were written about this lady, it would surely be a best seller. She touched the heart of everyone she met and people talk of "a heart of gold!" Yes, the lady had it all! Never thought about herself; it was always someone else.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris (Buzz) Nelson of Medford, OR and Vi Duro of Twin Falls; a son, Harold Redman of Boise; a daughter-in-law, Mabel Redman of Weiser; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two wonderful care givers, Evylan Ross and Santiago.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Redman; one son, Art; one daughter, Dolores Samuelson; and one granddaughter, Judy Luecket.
She was buried at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, Canyon Co., Idaho.4,2
