Mrs. Miriam Black Grubbs, age 97, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at NHC Healthcare of Anderson. She was born in Banning, CA, the daughter of the late Curtiss Wesley Black and the late Maude Comfort Blanchard Black. In 1932 she was married to Max Wilton Grubbs, who became a respected professor and tennis coach at Anderson University. They were married for 45 years until his untimely death on May 12, 1977. In 1937 Miriam and Max moved from Banning, CA to Belton, SC.
Mrs. Grubbs was a member of Anderson First Baptist Church where she was an active member and sang in the church choir. She served as a past president of the Belton Music Club and the Belton Garden Club. Miriam was also active in the Anderson Garden Club and in the activities of Anderson University.
Survivors include two daughters, Victoria "Vicki" Grubbs Cox, and her husband, Walter T. Cox, III, of Punta Gorda, FL, and Caroline Grubbs Singleton and her husband C. Philip Singleton of Anderson. Also left to carry on her legacy are 5 grandchildren: Lisa Victoria Cox Craig (Andrew), Walter Thompson Cox, IV, Sarah Victoria Long (William), Margaret Leanne Schaaf (Christian) and James Pickens Lever (Mira); 11 great-grandchildren: Grace Craig, Mary Craig, Katherine Craig, Miriam Cox, Riley Cox, William A. Long, Kelly Long, Daniel L. Castles, III, Austin L. Castles, Jamie Lever, and Jordan Booth; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Black; a nephew, Tim Black and his wife Lynda Black; a niece, Linda Ingram and her husband Wayne Ingram.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Miriam Grubbs will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11 AM with Rev. Dr. Jack Couch officiating. The family will gather with friends following the service at Forest Lawn.

David M. Bliss was born on 17 July 1845 at Lima, Allen Co., Ohio.1 He married Mary A. Lytle, daughter of Robert Lytle and Hannah Knox, on 5 January 1867.1
DAVID M. BLISS, farmer, P. O. Delphos, was born at Lima, Ohio, July 17, 1845; son of Col. Lester and Belinda (Hover) Bliss. From the high schools of the county, he entered the Ohio Wesleyan University, at Delaware, studying there two years. He spent some time reading law, with the intention of following the legal profession, but eventually engaged in mercantile business at Delphos, for a year and a half, then went to Sidney, Ohio, and edited the Sidney Journal for over a year, after which time he returned to this county, and turned his attention to farming and breeding shorthorn thorough-bred cattle, of the Lady Elizabeth stock. Mr. Bliss served the people as justice of the peace and township treasurer etc. He was married January 5, 1867, to Mary A. Lytle, who died nine months later without issue. She was a daughter of R. K. Lytle, of Delphos. Our subject's second marriage occurred September 20, 1869, with Alice J. Neel, who was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, September 10, 1845, and by this union were born five children: Lester L., born August 10, 1870; Neel V., born March 28, 1872; Charles M. and Morgan C. (twins), born September 11, 1876, died in infancy; and Mary Aldulia, born November 15,1878. Our subject is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics, he is a Democrat.1
