Robert J. Lawson was born on July 23, 1939 in Thief River Falls, MN to the parents of Reuben and Aurelia (Giefer) Lawson. He attended school grades 1-6 at District 29 (Country School), grades 7-8 at St. Bernard's Parochial School and graduated from Lincoln High School all of Thief River Falls, MN. He enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps February 17, 1957 to February 16, 1960 and was stationed at Naval Air Station, San Diego, CA. Following his honorable discharge, he owned and operated a small restaurant in Thief River Falls.
Robert married Linda Noel on June 3, 1967 in St. Paul, MN. They made their home in Fargo, ND where he worked for Singer. In 1971, they moved to Enderlin, ND where he began his 25 year career as a breakman conductor with Soo Line Railroad (NKA CP Rail) and retired in 1995. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, wood working and spending priceless moments with his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife, Linda, West Fargo; son, Michael (Wendi) Lawson, Fargo; two daughters, Tess Lawson, Edina, MN and Jill (Michael) Baarstad, Nome, ND; beloved grandchildren, Hannah, Hunter, Noah, Gunnar and Sydney; sisters, MaryAnn Chwiakowski and Lucy Knoll both of Stephen, MN, Judy (Lynn) Egenes, Detroit Lakes, MN and Cathy Allen, Juneau, AK and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alyce Bergdahl and special friends, Floyd and Pahoo.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 7 in the West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo.
Funeral: Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo.
