Freeman E. Scott was born in 1843 at Halifax, Windham Co., Vermont.1 He married Jennie Mary Crothers.1 Freeman E. Scott died on 20 November 1903 at Houston, Harris Co., Texas.1
Following from an undated newspaper article:
SCOTT - Freeman E. Scott, a former resident of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.T. Perkins, at Houston, Texas, this, Friday, morning. A message from Mrs. Perkins to H.C. Johnson gave the information of his death here. Mr. Scott was afflicted with Bright's disease and had not been able for his accustomed duties for about four months. He left here for his home in September and previous to that he visited his boyhood home in Vermont.
Mr. Scott had many friends in Seymour having lived here in former years. He married a sister of Dr. M.F. Gerrish and later after her death he married a sister of Mrs. W.W. Tabb, of this city. She also died a few years ago. His only child is Mrs. Perkins, at whose home he died. For several years he was an engineer on the Louisville division of the Panhandle. Then he became foreman of the company's round house at Indianapolis. His uncle, Col. Horace Scott, was then superintendent of the J.M. & I road. Later Mr. Scott operated a stave and heading mill at Chestnut Ridge. His plant there burned causing a heavy loss. For the past fifteen years, Mr. Scott had been superintendent of the Terminals at Galveston, Texas. He was a man well up in railroad work and had a wide acquaintance among railroad men. The message to Mr. Johnson stated that the remains would be taken to Jeffersonville for burial.2 He was buried at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville, Clark Co., Indiana, Plot: Section G.

Officers kill Eagan man in standoff at his home Authorities say he aimed at police
By Richard Meryhew Staff Writer
An Eagan man who had threatened suicide was shot to death by three Eagan police officers Sunday when he pointed a shotgun at them after a long standoff at his home.
Dennis R. Seiz, 43, was shot after he knelt in his back yard and urged the officers to kill him. Minutes earlier he had set fire to his house. "He kept saying, 'Kill me, kill me, kill me,' " said Eagan Police Chief Pat Geagan.
The officers repeatedly ordered him to put down his shotgun, but when he swung it toward the officers they fired, the chief said.
Geagan said Seiz fell to the ground, then reached for a pistol in his waist-band, and the officers fired again. None of the officers was injured. "They had no choice," Geagan said. "It was self-defense."
Seiz died in surgery at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center last night. Geagan said Seiz was a longtime Eagan resident who worked at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake and was a member of the Eagan Volunteer Fire Department.
According to police, events began unfolding about 1:40 p.m. yesterday when Seiz' wife, Donna, went to the Eagan police station and told authorities that her husband had threatened suicide. She told police that her husband had poured fuel oil and a fertilizer mixture in the house on Quarry Court, just off Pilot Knob
Rd. near Interstate Hwy. 35E, and had threatened to ignite it to create an explosion.
Several Eagan police officers were sent to the house and tried unsuccessfully to contact Seiz by telephone for more than three hours. Geagan said Seiz eventually called his attorney, "and his attorney contacted us and thought everything was under control. He was going to go over to the house and speak to the man."
Before the attorney arrived, Seiz dialed 911and reported that he had set fire to the house.
About the same time, a neighbor also called authorities to report smoke coming from the house. One of the officers at the scene reported seeing flames. Shortly after that, at about 6 p.m. Seiz began firing shots at police from the house.
"About that same time, he started hollering at (police), and they were hollering at him," Geagan said. "They asked him to put his gun down. We believe he fired five or six rounds."
Geagan said police didn't return fire, instead ordering Seiz to put down his He refused. About a half-hour , Seiz went outside to the back yard, knelt and told the three officers there to kill him, Geagan said.
"He kept saying, 'Kill me, kill me, kill me,'" the chief said. "They continued to tell him to put his gun down. He finally swung the shotgun around toward the officers, and they shot him."
A neighbor said an officer told her that Seiz' wife and two young children were not home at the time. "He told me that they were OK," Geagan said. Donna Seiz was at police headquarters throughout the ordeal.
Seiz was taken by ambulance to St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center, where he died in surgery about 8:20 p.m.. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
The fire at Seiz' home was later extinguished.
Geagan said Seiz apparently had been "real despondent" recently. Seiz had threatened suicide several times in the past, neighbors My. and had filed for bankruptcy protection in 1990.
In June 1987, while working as a University of Minnesota police officer, a distraught Seiz held a gun to his head and threatened suicide while leading police on a 14-mile high-speed chase that began in St. Paul and ended on I-35E in Burnsville.
Seiz, who was Off-duty at the time of the chase, held officers at bay from the driver's seat of his car for nearly three hours before giving himself up. He later was fined $220, given a year's probation and ordered to complete a counseling program after pleading guilty to careless driving.
Gregan said last night that he has asked the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the shooting and that the Dakota County Sheriff's Department will assist. The three officers were placed on administrative leave pending the report on the case, which is standard procedure for police shootings.
