Frank Carter
Frank Carter, 70, died at his home, 607 South Street at 3:35 a.m., Monday, August 19. Mr. Carter was born at Steubenville, Ohio, June 25, 1870, a son of John Dawson and Margaret Johnson Carter. On April 13, 1886, he married Minnie Horn, who preceded him in death a number of years ago. His second marriage was to Sara Hochstein. For the past several years he has been caretaker of the First Methodist church and has been a resident of Clarion for 26 years. He was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are his wife, three sons, John D. Carter, Clarion; Frank Carter, Jr., and Earl, of Sapulpa, Okla; five daughters, Mrs. Eula Fridley, Indianapolis, Ind; Mrs. John Dickey, Brackenridge; Mrs. Charley Bigley, Mrs. Floyd Bigley, of Clarion; Mrs. Frank Knecht, Cleveland, and a sister, Nellie Wike, of Freedom. Isabelle Burwell Carter was born on 27 June 1891 at Richmond, Virginia. She married Douglas Crocker, son of Alvah Crocker and Charlotte Trowbridge Bartow, on 30 April 1924 at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Richmond, Virginia. Isabelle Burwell Carter died on 13 December 1988 at Fitchburg, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, at age 97.
Crocker-Carter Wedding
Among brilliant functions of this season in Richmond was the wedding of Miss Isabelle Burwell Carter, daughter of Mrs. Thomas Nelson Carter and the late Thomas Nelson Carter, to Douglas Crocker, son of Mr. anil Mrs. Alvah Crocker of Fitching Mass., which took place at All Saints' Episcopal Church yesterday afternoon at 12:10 o'clock. The ceremony was performed by the rector Rev. J.Y. Downman, D.D., assisted by Rev William T. Crocker of New York, an uncle of the bridegroom. The church was decorated with Easter lilies and cathedral candles.
The bride entered with her uncle, Spencer Carter, who gave her in marriage. She wore a gown of ivory satin draped at the side and held with sprays of orange blossoms. The yoke of the gown was fashioned of satin and point d'Angleterre lace and the court train was of satin and point d'Angleterre lace. Her veil of tulle was held with a coronet of the same lace and she carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley and white orchids.
Mrs. Shaun Kelly of Richmond, Mass., was matron of honor. Miss Isabelle Mayo Cameron of Raleigh, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Misses Sallie Taliaferro Cameron and Miss Elizabeth Preston Cocke. They wore imported frocks and carried bouquets of spring flowers, delphinium and tea roses.
Mr. Crocker had for his best man Gavin Hadden, of New York, and his ushers were George W Martin of New York; Barton Crocker of Fitchburg; Norman Harrower of Fitchburg; Richard B. Wigglesworth, of Boston; Arthur Sweeney Lawrence, of Boston; Charles D. Osborne Auburn, N.Y; Shaun Kelly, of Richmond, Mass., and Frank C. Page of New York.
The ceremony was followed by a breakfast at the home of the bride, 206 West Franklin Street. The guests Included the out-of town guests and intimate friends. The drawing-room where Mr. and Mrs. Crocker and Mrs. Carter received their guests was decorated with pink roses and the library was in yellow flowers and the dining-room was decorated with spring flowers. Mrs. Carter wore a beautiful gown of black beaded georgette and a bouquet of orchids.
Mr. and Mrs. Crocker left yesterday afternoon for Washington and will go from there to New York and sail Saturday on the steamship "Olympic", -landing at Southampton. Mr. and Mrs. Crocker will spend the next three months traveling In France, Spain and Italy, returning the last of July to Fitchburg, where they will make their future home.
