Wife Deserter Given 1-2 Year Term at Waupun
Verne Larson, 32, Is Sentenced by Judge Blum

Verne Larson, 32, formerly of Tomahawk, was handed a term of not less than one year nor more than two years in the state penitentiary at Waupun by Judge George L. Blum in county court Tuesday morning after pleading guilty to a charge of desertion and non-support of his wife, Lucille, and five minor children.

Larson was arrested at the Minneapolis postoffice Saturday by Under- sheriff Henry Neher when he called to get his mail at the general delivery window. Larson left his wife and five children, aged two to eight years, about March 1, last, and went to Montana where he stayed several months, officials said. He pleaded guilty to the charges when arraigned Monday afternoon and sentence was deferred until Tuesday.

"When you deserted your wife and five little children you committed a crime which, in my estimation, is second only to murder." Judge Blum told Larson. "There ls too much of this desertion and non-support going on and this court, from now on, will impose the drastic penalties provided by law in cases where the offense is an aggravated one."

Larson, questioned by the court, was unable to give any definite explanation of his actions. Mrs. Larson, officials said, has been living in Eau Claire with her parents for several months.

Arrest Man Here Wanted On Bigamy Charge

Herbert Larson, 39, who is wanted by Glacier county officials to face a bigamy charge, was arrested in Helena this week by Rolla Duncan, deputy sheriff of Lewis and Clark county.
Larson, who had been working here as a mechanic, was taken to Cut Bank last night by Sheriff Asa Armstrong of Glacier county. Sheriff Armstrong said Larson has a wife in Cut Bank, one in Calumet. Mich., and that he was also married in Billings. The county commissioners of Glacier county signed the complaint charging Larson with bigamy upon information furnished by his wife at Cut Bank.
The Glacier county sheriff said a recent telegram from Larson's wife in Michigan stated that Larson did not secure a divorce from her and that she had thought him dead as he was reported drowned in the Yellowstone river in 1938. Larson has three children in Michigan, said Sheriff Armstrong. - Helena Independent.

STORK MAKES VISIT DURING SLEIGHRIDE
Blackduck, Minn., Dec. 28.-As Mr. and Mrs. Archie Noel were hurrying here in a sleigh from their home near Third River, fifteen miles south of this place, the stork made a visit leaving a daughter.
The weather was freezing cold but fortunately they were not far from the Crabtree home where they were afforded shelter and made as comfortable as circumstances would permit. Dr. Koch was called and found both mother and child suffering from their harrowing experience. Mrs. Noel is reported as recovering nicely but it is doubtful if the baby will survive.
