Sarah May Bracket was also known as Sadie. She was born on 7 October 1874 at Phillips, Franklin Co., Maine.1 She was the daughter of James S. Brackett and Flora Ella Russell. Sarah May Bracket graduated in 1898 at Bates College, Lewiston, Androscoggin Co., Maine. She married Louis Bartlett Costello on 14 February 1900. Sarah May Bracket died on 15 April 1957 at Lewiston, Androscoggin Co., Maine, at age 82.1

Mrs. Sadie Brackett Costello, 82, of 45 Campus Ave., Lewiston died. early last night at her home, having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage late Wednesday afternoon. She had been in failing health for several years.
Mrs. Costello was born October 7, 1874, at Phillips, Maine, the daughter of James S. and Ella (Russell) Brackett, and married Louis B. Costello on February 14, 1900. Both were graduated from Bates College in the class of 1898.
Soon after graduation, she joined the staff of The Lewiston Daily Sun, then five years old. She served as assistant editor, giving special attention to society news and material of interest to women.
She left newspaper work in 1901, about a year after her marriage to Mr. Costello, and devoted much of her time for many years to women's affairs and the Lewiston United Baptist Church's church school. From 1920 to 1927, Mrs. Costello served as district secretary of the Maine Council of Religious Education.
Mrs. Costello collaborated with the late Prof. Herbert R. Purinton of the Bates College Faculty in writing a Biblical textbook, "The Achievement of the Master", which was published in 1926. The book was written for the Maine Bible Credit Course and was widely commended. It was one of a series of four.
She and Mr. Costello traveled extensively, and they wrote articles on their experiences for the benefit of The Sun readers.
She was a member of the Lewiston United Baptist Church, of its Woman's Society, of the Bates Key and was a life member of the Women's Hospital Association and the Young Women's Christian Association.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, at 2 P. M. from the United Baptist church. Hours of visitations are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P. M. at the Roderick Funeral Home, corner Wood and Vale Street. Please omit flowers.
